    B&O Poor Quality Treble

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My 2016 8v has the Bang and Olusfen sound system, and in songs that have high treble I get some bad crackling from the front speaker (not sure what the correct term is). I am forced to keep the treble at 0 in the sound menu because if I raise it at all, the crackle is more apparent in more songs.

Is this common for B&O speakers? Anything I can do to improve the sound?

I am not seeing that on mine. I would take it in.

I believe there is a dedicated thread covering this issue in extreme detail. The bottom line yes B&O crackling is a well known issue and Audi wont fix it. OP search that thread it is here.

I remember seeing the other thread about this, but I never looked into it. I had B&O in my '13 S4 and had the same issue. I currently have the '16 s3 and the issue remains.

From what I've noticed, it occurs while streaming Bluetooth songs from my iPhone with songs that weren't "mastered for iTunes". If the songs are "too hot", they will crackle out the front B&O speakers, but when playing the same songs direct through iPod via interface cable, no crackling.

I've done quite a bit of trouble shooting, and this seems to be an issue with streaming, but maybe that is only part of the problem. Anybody else have a thought in this?

Workaround if using mp3 etc. via usb or sdcard. Convert them to 48kHz and the issue is gone. But this is only a workaround...

Same here! Had to be Sepang Blue and had to have mag ride, SS and B&O were strong wants, but I ended up not getting either. To be honest the factory "upgraded" stereos are almost always trash. Excepting some of Toyota's past offerings.

It's crazy to me that Audi wouldn't catch this in testing. I believe a software update could address this, but it doesn't seem very likely that will happen.

I have both options and haven't had any issues at all. Glad I purchased the options.

SS seats were not offered when I bought my S3 and I strongly wish I had gotten them. Fine nappa leather is used to wrap SS seats and as I recall my experience with A6 the leather had a more premium feel to it, it is smoother and looks and feels a lot richer. In addition the door armrests and kneepads on both sides of center console are also leather wrapped. Loosing a power seat adjustment is not a big deal as I think having power seat adjustments without memory seat function is kinda same as manual to me.

As for B&O in S3 I think it is a must have option. Despite the system's crackling issue it is heck of a vaule. B&O in S3 in my opinion is the best sound system in its class. I remember paying like $1500 for Mark & Levinson system when I bought Lexus IS350. M&L used to have and probably still have great reputation but I honestly couldn't say that it was "premium". B&O blows all of them, no exceptions. B&O is the most balanced producing crystal clear sounds without distortion at high output level.

So in short - both SS seats and B&O - yes, yes please :)

I actually had an issue with one of the front left speakers crackling/buzzing at certain frequencies. Took it in and sat with a tech to replicate it. They isolated the speaker and replaced it with no problem.

The problem is not so much Audi addressing the issue but moreso Bang and O. In order to have B&O replace the unit or address the issue it has to be proven with a very strong case as B&O decides if replacement is required after all they designed the system for these vehicles. Apologies for the grammar as I'm inputting this via mobile.
