    CoolStream bluetooth (Tune2Air alternative)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just ordered the Audi version of http://coolstreamrocks.com/product-catalog/ and received it yesterday. So far I've only used it on my drive to work this morning but I was able to connect to it and the MMI phone system without any issue on my Galaxy S6. I was able to make a call while listening to youtube (it paused the video and switched to phone automatically).

I ordered it over the Tune2Air based on the negative reviews on Amazon. There is not a single negative review for the CoolStream.

Right now Amazon is having stocking issues on the CoolStream device and the manufacturer's website is temporarily out of stock (I guess I ordered the last one) but you might try contacting them if you're looking for an alternative to Tune2Air and are wondering how long before they restock the product.

I've had Tune2Air for over 6 months. Aside from it taking a little long to connect to my iphone (sometimes 15-20 seconds), I've had no problems or complaints.

Mine screws up my phone after I turn off my car. My phone wont play any sound or anything until I restart it, sometimes turning off the BT works but not always. This happens every time I turn off my car. It wont disconnect fron Tune2Air after the car is off.

I've had the Tune2Air for a while and the only issue is connecting. Sometimes I need to turn off the BT on the phone (Galaxy S6) and back on and then it connects. Still doesn't display song info, but works okay. Some other quirky things have happened, but not a big deal. Just remember BT audio is pretty poor quality, so kind of does a disservice to the B&O audio system.

From the FAQ regarding the duo:

The CoolStream Duo will ONLY work with the 2009 Mercedes SLK350 if the iPod cable also has the 3.5mm AUX jack. The 30 pin connector on the iPod cable will give the Duo power. But the music has to go through the AUX jack

so it doesn't sound like it

I've not used it heavily the past 2 days but no problems so far whatsoever. Search for their products on Amazon - they are all 5 stars.

I have a Tune2air. When I use it, it skips frequently. This seems to be an iPhone issue. Before I would switch , I would want to be sure it works just as well with the iphones.

Had an aftermarket BT unit (Dension) in my B7, but only because the stock head unit did not support streaming. Don't all the B8+ cars have factory audio streaming? If so, what are you adding with one of these?

    [Sorry for the ignorance...]

No, none of the B8 cars have factory streaming which is why people are adding this.

According to the coolstream website the skipping issue is bad enough with "Car Pro" that they added a FAQ for it http://coolstreamrocks.com/faqs/2763/, and are still working on a solution.

Am I the only one who thinks this is just a rebadged Tune2Air device?

My coolstream sometimes doesn't show up in the mmi and have to reboot it then it is fine. It pops like the t2a does when connect to both mmi and Bluetooth. Also the fwd and reverse buttons sometimes skip over songs like the t2a did. However their customer service is top notch and in the US and they are working on a solution but no eta. That's the reason I kept it over the t2a.

I honestly haven' t been using it much. When it was connected, my phone would get confused when I was on a call and switch bluetooth devices in the middle of my call even though I've told it to use the MMI for call audio. That might be a phone issue though (Galaxy S6). I have since disconnected my coolstream since I don't stream that often anyway...
I let my wife stream through it on her iphone on a road trip and didn't experience any skipping issues though she had some trouble controlling the music through her phone while it was playing.

    Hello,

I connected the CoolStream right from the box and didn't have any luck. Got it to paired, however no sound came out of the speakers. Are there any steps I should be following?

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but you need to make sure you're on the correct media input in the MMI (the same as if you were connecting an ipod) and your phone's volume is turned up.
