Hey guys just wondering if you guys think the ticking noise sounds normal in my car? i filmed it very close with a android phone so the sound seems louder then usual but im just wondering if you guys think theres anything to worry about?

That definitely doesn't sound good. Is it by a particular cylinder? Take the valve cover off and take a look. Could be several things Could be a broken valve spring (not likely) or a broken or loose spring retainer. Hopefully not. If you dropped a valve your piston and cylinder walls will be innocent victims. (as well as your wallet)

its not by a particular cylinder or anything but it did seem like it was more prominent by the drivers side.

i have never noticed it until i lifted the hood up a few days ago and put my ear to it. it hasnt thrown any CELs or anything and the drive seems fine, i cant even remotely hear the noise from the inside.

the car recently had the intake manifold replaced and went through a carbon clean by Audi and all 8 injectors were replaced


also if i did drop a valve would i feel any drop in power? because the car idles fine and accelerates fine

It's hard to say with the sound quality. At times it sounds sort of drastic and other times it sounds like typical direct injection injectors firing. Have you considered removing the valve cover to do a quick visual inspection?

i have never removed the valve cover before but i am sure i could do that myself. I will try looking up a DIY, im thinking its probably pretty straight forward.

no codes, no loss of power. still has a great kick in the high rpms. idles fine too and i even rolled down all windows to hear any noises during acceleration and theres nothing..

Is the sound only present at idle, and as soon as you give it any kind of throttle it goes away?

yea, like the sound doesnt get any louder along with the rest of the car if i give it some gas. you can only really hear it if you open the hood and the car is idling below 1k

i just noticed it now, but i think its always been there. ive had 3 b7 S4s and a b8 s4 as well and they all had similar noises.

My engine sounds about the same only the clicks don't sound so deep, they sound more "fine" (it could be only bad audio quality).
I think that's a normal sound of the injectors. The video above from 65vetteC6 sounds more like a tractor (damaged cam-tensioner).

I was seriously debating driving all the way out this spring and get a crap load of stuff done including a transmission rebuild. but with our dollar being absolutly crap at the moment and gas/hotel cost, it was coming out to be more expensive then having everything shipped here and done locally.

the car did get a carbon clean 9k km ago with a new intake manifold and new injectors!

well when i bought the car, the previous owner had it de carbed and audi recommended getting a new IM as well. so he got the whole thing done with new injectors as well. he said the EPC light came on and the car shut off once so he brought it in to Audi. the bill was a crazy amount!
