    New owner. New problem.

Hey guys. First I'll start by introducing myself. Names Sam and I just picked up an 09 b8 a4 today. It's my first Audi but I have owned Volkswagen and mini in the past so I'm somewhat familiar with German cars already.

Encountered my first problem already today. I opened the sunroof all the way, then closed it. Just wanted to see how the knob worked. Then tilted it up just to vent a little and kept it like that for a bit of the day. I closed it later on. When coming back to my car I noticed the sunroof was titled down a bit into the car. It now will not move at all. I can hear the gears moving like it wants to slide however the glass is staying still.

It's night out so I couldn't get the best pictures but you can still see how its dropping down into the car and you can see light peering through from the inside lights.

I'm guessing it came off track? Not sure of the proper way to go about this. I already called the dealership I got it from and they told me to just bring it back tomorrow when I get done work for them to look at it. I'd rather save myself the trip if it's something I could do myself though.

Seen that before. Lubricate the hinges for the wind deflector that pops up when the sunroof is open. When it starts to bind a little bit, it doesn't allow the sunroof to slide forward all the way.

So you're saying the wind deflector hasn't fully folded down and it propping the glass up and preventing it from catching on the gears? I'm assuming I would have to remove the headliner and lol to get to that or is there an easier route?

Also, I have tried moving it using the tool and it did nothing. Still stuck.

Slide the sunroof back open. The wind deflector is a little black bar that pops up when the sunroof opens. Lubricate its hinges, it has too much resistance to allow the window glass to fully close.

I ended up taking it back to the dealer to have them handle it. I couldn't get it to move at all on my own. I got it from a a Lexus dealership and they are sending it over to Audi but I won't be getting it til Monday. For the time being I have a 2015 Lexus nx200t as a loaner car so I'm not complaining too much.

Turns out a gear actually stripped itself out which is why it wasn't moving. The dealership sent it over Audi who replaced it and it was all free of charge to me. Got her back today. Just in time for this snow storm we are getting

Nice. Glad you worked out that kink before it was too late! Hopefully that is the only problem you experience for a while!
