    Sirius Problem - 2015 S5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Sirius radio signal is cutting out badly. Have reset signal several times and Audi replaced antenna, but it is still not working. I am being told by service that unfortunately the signal is not great on the S5 and there is nothing they can do about it (also was told about an apparent software update that screwed everything up).

Anyone have similar issue and/or know of a remedy?

    TIA!

I don't know how much of the hardware carried over from 2008 to 2015, but I never had problems with my Sirius. It was active for the first few months I owned my car. I stopped using it because I couldn't stand the audio compression. Pandora via Bluetooth sounds much better. Regardless, I didn't have any technical or reception problems with my Sirius when I was using it. So I'd say the dealer's claim that the "signal is not great in the S5" is code for "we have no idea how to fix this".

This isn't really a fix, but if your subscription includes online streaming, maybe just stream it via your phone and play it in the car via Bluetooth?

I have no problem with signal in my 2013 S5, even when traveling out of state and/or cities, rural areas, etc.

No problem here. I was actually really surprised as to how well it holds signal - it even works in my garage...

I had the same problem on a Alpine unit that I had on my truck, I spoke with Sirius and their techs tested the head unit and determined
that the reception module in the Alpine head unit was defective, instead of repairing it I decided to install a better Pioneer unit in my truck.
I have not had any problems with the reception in my S5 since I transfered it into it.
Have you spoken with Sirius and have them troubleshoot your problem?

Funny you mentioned that. My Sirius Radio stopped working also. The display said LINKING. Called Sirius 3 times to have them send a signal but to no avail. Even tried to reset the MMI. My 2015 RS5 has been at the dealer for the past week and they can't figure out the problem They replaced the antenna with no luck, next is the Sirius module. I understand the module is a fairly expensive part so I'm waiting to hear from Audi in what direction we go next. They're not even certain that's causing the issue.

I had a problem in my 2013 RS5 when I got it where Sirius stopped working. The sound was this awful ear splitting static/modem like sound and they ended up replacing the Sirius module. No problems ever since over the last 3 years...

The only problem I've had with Sirius is that I did a 60 day trial on my Tacoma and those assholes wouldn't stop harassing me. I must have asked them to stop calling me 100+ times before they finally stopped calling, and now they send me spam mail at least 3 times a week.

The Sirius on my '13 S5 exhibited the same problem 2 months after delivery when I took a 3200 mile trip for Xmas back in '12. Upon my return - which dovetailed nicely with the initial 5K service - I brought this to the attention of the dealer who could not locally replicate the problem. Found a spot less than 5 miles down the road and returned and took the Service Manager out for a ride. We then took a new S5 off the lot and drove the same course, with no issues. They replaced the Sirius tuner module and the cut-outs seemed less frequent, however there still were a few spots with intermediate loss. This past Thanksgiving took the same trip as back in '12, but instead of travelling thru the middle of the country, started heading down I-81 to catch I-40. After about 4 hours of intermittent losses ... much the same as I experienced with the original module ... I just listened to the jukebox and haven't tried Sirius since. There was also a thread on this about 2-1/2 years ago or so where someone from Sirius came on the forum and asked for those who complained to contact them, but I don't think this ever amounted to anything. Yours is not an isolated observation.

This is exactly the issue I have. Are they pushing back on replacing the module?

Weird. Is everyone experiencing this same problem in just this past week?

Because my Sirius was working fine and suddenly stopped - display says LINKING. I too called Sirius and they resent the signal several times before telling me to take it to the dealer.

My car is up for inspection this month so I'll have them investigate this problem while it's in the shop.

Problem solved. Was an antenna issue. Replaced the Antenna and downloaded new software. Seems that Audi is aware of the problem which presents itself more commonly in the S5's than the RS5's.

I am getting the same error in my 2015 RS5 as others have mentioned - past two days it just says "linking". I called Sirius who sent a refresh signal (did not work), and now they're telling me to bring the car to the dealer, which I'm not going to have time to do for a while. Sounds like others have remedied this with antenna replacement.. Thing is it was fine up till just a couple of days ago.

Did the dealership replace the antenna for you? Just wondering how long I should expect them to keep the car to order/replace the antenna?

Audi had my car for approximately TWO weeks. At first they could not isolate the problem, not sure it was the antenna or the module. After zeroing in on the antenna, it then had to be ordered. The antenna comes in unpainted which then was sent to a bodyshop for painting. All is good now. Dealer gave me a 2015 Audi A8 for a loaner. Another incredible car, little big though, but thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm bringing my car in tomorrow and about to begin this odyssey myself; although the dealership told me they will try to diagnose while I wait, and then I can take the car and bring it back once they get whatever part they need. Hope that works.

Just had mine diagnosed. They say it's a bad module.

New module costs $1100, but thankfully I have an extended warranty from a 3rd party. So the cost will be covered.

Mine also said "linking" but was diagnosed as a bad antenna. Waiting for new part to come in and get painted. Will see if it works.
