Oil Leak! Help! Is this the shop's fault?!

So I drive a 2005.5 A4 Quattro 2.0T. Almost at 109,000 miles. I'm not the most mechanically savvy, so I'll do my best to explain.

I took it into the shop a few days before Christmas to have the spark plugs and ignition oils replaced. It was running great but then all of a sudden last night a notification comes up telling me my oil is low. I had my oil changed about 2,000 miles ago. Since it was late, I said I'd deal with it tomorrow. So today I come out, and the engine won't even turn over, not to mention I had to manually unlock it because the key fob wouldn't work. Is there any relation here, or did the cold weather kill my battery too?

Anyways, I attached some images of the oil leak. Do any of you think this could be the shops fault after changing my spark plugs and coils?

I don't think it's related to the spark plug change. My guess would be valve cover gasket. Find a reputable VW/Audi repair place to verify. Don't take it to a general auto repair shop.

On that last pic, you can see the rubber gasket surrounding the valve cover screws is starting to degrade. I would buy a new set of VC screws, or better yet a new Valve cover, and slap it on there. Might be a good time to replace the PCV as well. Leakage through those screw holes is fairly common as the rubber oxidizes and cracks as it ages. My guess is that VC is original as its silver and its probably not a bad idea to replace it.

    Than you for the replies.
Charles: Could you give me a ballpark estimate on what those parts would cost? And would it be a DIY I could find somewhere among these threads?

I believe there is a DIY somewhere. The valve cover should be in the $200 range and comes with all new bolts and a new gasket. The PCV stuff can be had for around $100 or less all in. Its a pretty simple DIY to be honest. You just need a T30 torx and a torque wrench for the valve cover and the PCV maybe a t-25 torx or something like that. The hardest part is the VC - > turbo PCV pipe as its sort of a pain to get down towards the turbo inlet where it attaches.

But yea fairly simple hand tool stuff, nothing crazy. Probably a 30-60 minute job if you're taking your time.

Forgot to mention that I had my PCV replaced a few months ago. That should make the job easier.

My bet was valve cover as well. Where can you find them for $200?

You also said your engine wouldn't turn over. Are you sure you got a low level warning or was it a low pressure warning? There is a big difference between the two.

Thanks for the reply. My battery was dead and caused nothing to work. I'm pretty sure it was a low level. Now I'm dealing with what seems to be an electrical issue with my tail lights/license plate lights.
