Had some fun with a 2015 Camaro this weekend

Wife and I had some errands to run. Was going across town on the highway and went to go pass another car, I guess a new Camaro (V-6) heard the SQ5 superchargers whine as I passed the other vehicle. Next thing I know I look over and he is next to us pacing and hitting the throttle. I look ahead and we have a nice clear 3 lanes of highway in front of us. Wife looked over and gave me the eye of I know you aren't, well he jumped and I jumped after him.

I figured the edge would go to the SQ5, 4300lbs with 355hp versus the Camaro 4100lbs and 326hp. Sure enough even with him getting the jump the A8 in the SQ5 kept us in the meat of the powerband better, I reel him in and start pulling past him. From a dig I am sure it would have been even more brutal of a loss for the Camaro.

Now to get the wife on board with the exhaust changes and letting me tune the SQ5, then even the V-8 pony cars may be surprised when the little over SUV rolls up next to them.

Glad the Audi won (shame if it didn't). I drove one of those Camaros recently for a rental car. Completely boggles me why someone would want one.

This thread got my interest because I recently had a bit of fun *in* a 2015 Camaro. A family member just bought a ZL1. I too wonder why people would want these things, but I do have to say...580hp will intoxicate a man. ;) Fun drive, for sure. Some quality tech in there too, but overall it still strikes me as an incredible engine inside a mundane car. Here's a pic from the Arizona desert...

Power will always excite. But OP said V6. That thing is quite anemic. My B7 has more get up and go than that, except for maybe when I'm in the low RPM range. But yeah, the interior is not great at all, buttons are confusing, and the fact I had to manually flip the rearview mirror in 2016 infuriates me.

C&D tested a Camaro V6 manual at 0-60 5.4 seconds, 0-100 14.1 seconds and 14.1 seconds 1/4 mile. They said the automatic would probably be a bit quicker.

For the SS they got 0-60 3.9 seconds, 0-100 8.9 seconds and 12.3 seconds 1/4 mile.

No doubt a different demographic than the SQ5

    Hello Gents,
Qualified opinion here, as I owned a 2010 Camaro V6(tuned and real CAI, 21"wheels). SQ5 (with my mods),is and feels much faster. Handling is no comparison. On a straight line, Camaro felt heavy and actually sluggish, despite the aggressive looks. Loved the car though, my first shot at car awesomeness, I guess.. :)

    Cheers,
    Bob

I noticed in the C&D tests the curb weight of the V6 was 3,467lb and the SS was 3,760lb.

I recently sold my 2011 CTS-V, tuned, CAI. My SQ is modded as well. From a dead stop, it'd be pretty close, but I can tell you that from about 70 on, my caddy would kill the SQ. That thing is just brutal fast and ass loads of torque. But that's it. The transmission is no where near as nice as the ZF. And don't get me started on the interior bits. Good gawd. The fact the caddy was $70K (I didn't pay that), is shameful. GM should be ashamed. Overall, the SQ is a better vehicle - hands down.

I will say that if this dual pulley and new tune comes out for the SQ, it'll give a lot of stock CTS-Vs, ZL1s and Vettes a rude awakening. Hell, it's awesome to get em off the line. Lol

Tune the SQ, it's a whole diff beast.

I am a GM guy, both parents retired from GM. My truck is a 2014 Sierra with the 6.2l engine. SQ5 is the wife's ride and my toy until I pay the truck off, then a 2015+ Corvette will be on the radar. I had a 2008 Corvette that I sold, still regret it to this day.

Just got a Q5, would love to get a ZL1 Camaro / Z06 in the near future as a weekend car. They sound SO good!
