Anyone in Ottawa area with RNS-E?

Hey all,

I recently bought an RNS-E and fitted it into my b6 a4, but unfortunately it came with some music cd instead of the navigation disk. I've tried to burn my own copy, but either my laser reader is worn out, or my disks aren't burned properly. I'm looking for someone in the Ottawa area that has a navigation disk, burned or original, just to check if my laser reader is working. Any help is greatly appreciated, and I would love to meet some fellow Audi owners in the area to play in the snow with.

I've burned many nav DVDs for the RNS-E. There are tricks that need to be taken into account.

For one, you'll need Verbatim discs. No other brand works as reliably. Quality thing I guess. Specifically, DVD+R DL

Second, you'll need to specify the book-type which needs to be DVD-ROM. Not all burners allow for book-type setting though. My original one didn't but I was able to upgrade the firmware from another burner of the same brand that were interchangeable.
You can change the book-type on burner software apps like ImgBurn (here's a link on how to do it: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?/...pe-in-imgburn/)

If you did neither of these, then it's no surprise your burned copy didn't work.

I guess you could always send one of your burned DVDs to someone with an RNS-E if you can't find someone with a nav disc in your area and see if they can read it. If they can't, it's probably the burner. If they can, it's probably your RNS-E. Might take a while though with Canada Post lol.

Philip (in Toronto) covers quite a wide range of Audi's and systems.

Of course. There's many A4 owners on that FB page. The A4 and A5 are the two most closely related Audi's sharing numerous things.

I installed an RNS-E in by old B6 A4 avant, and the nav disc would only read for a few minutes before the "disc could not be read". It would play CDs, but the nav never worked for more than a few minutes.

Maybe there is something wrong with your reader, and not the disc. Good luck!! Hopefully you find a fix for it.

I'm actually only in school in Ottawa, originally from Hamilton, so I drive through Toronto pretty often! I'll definitely keep this in mind, thanks a lot!!

I'm most worried that the reader is broken, but the only way I can check that is with a known working copy of a nav disk...

On a side note, nice b6 s4 avant! I expect a follow back on ig (and where can I get a germanoem sticker??)

If you're in mississauga during the week, you can try mine. It was working fine but on really cold days it sometimes doesn't read. It's a burnt copy.

Sorry b7Trim, I'm not planning on selling it in case I ever decide to sell the car. As for EuroEnduro's comment, I think he meant that since I offered to help him test his RNS-E/DVD with my own, if I sold you my RNS-E, then that option would go away for him.

Jason can get anything all you have to do is call him. The website is constantly being updated but don't leave because the part you want isn't there. I just did the valley pan gasket, crank seal and check valves with all parts OEM and much cheaper coming from German OEM...............just sayin

Yea what Axel- said, but I was being a bit of a jerk, sorry about that. Good luck in your search for an RNS-E, if it helps, I found mine at a scrap yard in St. Catherine's. I was looking at audi a4 part outs om kijiji, and I thought I spotted it in a picture, so I sent a reply. The guy selling it knew nothing and sold it to me as a radio, for $100.
