    Question Clutch Break in Questions??????

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i have a couple of questions when breaking in my new clutch, it i the ecs RA4 stage 2 kit, the one with the single mass flywheel. (https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4...Clutch/ES5489/)
what is the proper break in im super stressd out becouse i do not want to ruin my new clutch if i do something wrong. Its not that i don't know how to drive stick its more of a fear of letting it slip to long and glazing it over and then messing it all up.

so what is the proper break in techniques?

How long will it take to have it be fully broken in?

Will i know when it is broken in? and how?

Also, any tips for when doing this? like maybe starting off with low boost or something?

Is city or highway better for break in?

How bad is it really if i slip the clutch like one time? Like there be a drastic decrease in the life of the clutch?

(I apologize for my lack of knowledge)
    Thanks!

Most people say stay out of boost for the first 1000 or so city miles. Other than that, just drive it normally. Try to stay away from downshifting without rev matching, as that puts some un-needed stress on the clutch disc as the car is slowing down. Just try to avoid applying additional torque/force to the clutch that you don't need to. The regular driving will allow the clutch and flywheel to seat and break in properly. FWIW, I put my clutch in my 3.0 and didn't drive any differently than I normally would. 15K later, everything is still going great!

Boost is fine. No power shifts, no launches. Drive it like you always do.

500 miles or so in the city is all you'll need. The more stop/go the better.

Theres no way to know if its "broken in" per-se.

I've been driving on my RA4 for 300 miles so far and get into full boost all the time (Making over 300whp).

so when would it be acceptable to turn up the boost? like after how many miles?

You can get into boost right away assumign you're stock turbo.

For a fairly stockish clutch, breakin is simple. Just drive it. And NO launching or excessive slipping. If you live in a hilly place, you might want to try to avoid doing too many hill starts until its broken in. For an organic disc, I've heard 500 miles or so city driving. Maybe a closer to 1000 when you get into more exotic friction materials. I just drove normally (though just less aggressive on the starts) when I was breaking in my Valeo clutch. After the break in period of 500 miles it was butter smooth and super progressive. Perfect basically.

+1, just drive smooth for about 500 city miles.
