How to clean oil sludge? Auto-Rx?

I haven't received an oil pressure light yet, but after replacing my cam chain tensioner and seeing what I did, I'm pretty sure I need to check my oil pressure, and start using an oil treatment of some sort. Do any of you have experience in cleaning out sludge?

Here's what it looks like under my valve cover . Previous owner sucked (I just got the car).

I have used the BG Products engine flush used by Audi Dealers. Audi Dealers won't sell it over the counter, so I purchased a one gallon jug from the BG Rep. ~$70.00. The BG Engine Flush contains harsh alkaline chemicals and ammonia in a motor oil base.

The only other product that I know works is Auto RX, I have not used Auto RX myself.

Your engine does not have a thick coating of sludge, mostly discoloration. Cleaning that up will not take a lot of flushing.

BG Engine Flush is a one time procedure, Auto RX is an ongoing process.

You could probably switch to Rotella T6 and the detergents in it would clean a lot of that up for you. It doesn't look all that bad really.

I've heard Kreen by Kano labs is magic. Have not yet used it, but, I do plan to in the future. I think you use 1.5 oz/ qt of oil. If you decide to use it, please let us know what your results are.

I'm with Diagnosticator on the BG flush. When I went to my local dealer that's what they said they use whenever a car comes in with a sludge problem. I have not used that actual product but I've used BG44K, BG MOA, and BG EPR and have been happy with the results of all three.

I cleaned up my gti the old school way 1qt gas mixed with 1qt diesel. Dump that in to a warm motor and rev it up every now and then for 5-10 min... Worked better than anything else I tried...

Btw, do an oil change right after...

Excellent, thanks for the input guys. I'll have to decide on what I want, but I think I'll be going with BG, since afterall, if the dealer uses it, it must work..

As far as oil though, I actually use only Rotella T6, along with the W940/25 Mann Filter, every 5000, but maybe the next two oil changes i'll do at 3k instead.
