Is the accelerator pedal supposed to "click" at WOT?

On my 2016, if I press the pedal, there is a point, maybe 80%, where it resists, and then I can press more which feels like a switch, with resistance and then obvious give, putting it into wide open throttle. Is that normal?

yay! I like it. cool idea especially when traction control is off. :-) any idea what percentage the throttle is at before the switch?

I believe you are at 100% throttle before hitting the kickdown switch.

I never understood the point of the kickdown switch. If you are at full 100% before it, why not just end there? I have found that if you literally do "kickdown" on the pedal really fast it will downshift a gear without involving any throttle input. Kind of silly though since you could just do that with the paddle anyway.

...and you would figure with all the sophisticated electronics and software a manual switch would not be necessary. Like you said... if the system can tell you are at 100% throttle before the kickdown switch shouldn't it have already kicked down....anyway, I'm sure there is a very specific reason why it exists...there usually is.

I imagine it's a fail safe, in the event that the throttle position sensor is not producing reliable measurements.

In my experience - in my E55 AMG sometimes- the torque is enough to accelerate without changing the gear. 1st is useless, 2nd really wakes up the car but sometimes to pass someone -I press and car -if it's in third will not drop down a gear cuz the

accelerator (maybe senses) it isn't a race otherwise he would've started from 1st or 2nd or in sports mode- so instead it'll just stay in 3rd and accelerate allowing me to pass other person.

However, if the other person -doesn't want you to pass him and steps on the gas pedal -and you have both hands on steering - then you just step on it a bit further and boom -car does it for us.

These are lazy person's supercars -keep that in mind lol

100%. The switch goes to 110%, which does nothing to the engine, but does tell the transmission to downshift.

It's another driver input. You can do it with either the pedal or the paddles and get the same result. That's also why it goes to 100% without the switch. You have full throttle input authority without using the switch.

As for why there has to be a physical switch, that's for tactile reasons. With the change in foot pressure, you can easily tell if you've pushed it or not. Again, it's all about driver inputs and making it intuitive.

What I've noticed in my car is that in comfort mode- sometimes when I put my entire foot down-the car drops only one gear and then I press on the "switch" it'll drop down to the lowest possible but in sports mode- switch or no switch it'll drop down to lowest gear when accelerator is fully pressed without pressing the switch-at that point switch doesn't do anything cuz sports mode already has the best gear possible. Lol my car is also 12 years old.
