Need to mount a front license plate bracket on my A7

The A7 I just purchased yesterday doesn't have a front license plate bracket and doesn't appear to have any place to mount one. The sales rep I was working with told me that the only difference between the grille component that you mount a bracket on is that it has indentations where you screw the bracket. He said I can save money by just finding the proper location and drilling the holes myself. I'm understandably nervous about drilling holes in my front grille. Is the sales rep correct? I'd like to avoid the cost and hassle of replacing the entire grille piece if I can.

Leave it off, I've never been hassled. But yes the plate frame just screws into the plastic. Heres my s4 after taking the plate off. You can see the 4 Holes.

I just pulled the OEM front grill with license plate holder off of my 2012 A7. If you're interested, let me know.

@brianc21 - Unfortunately I have been, multiple times when driving my previous car. Once in Eden Prairie and once in St. Paul. The EP cop actually ticketed me for it too, the dick.

@swope - Is this an easy thing to swap? I'm interested if it's a simple thing to do.

My wife's 2015 allroad had the same issue. I used velcro in some strategic places and work out great. Easy to remove if desired as well.

It's fairly easy if you take the front bumper off. It's a bit of a pain in the ass if you swap the grilles with the bumper still on.

In either case, it would be much easier to fabricate a solution with your existing grill -- I was just letting you know in case you really wanted to go the OEM route.

Even though Colorado has a front license plate, I don't have them on either of my vehicles.

Better to get a filler panel that includes the mounting bracket. My A7 came with it installed, but I replaced it with a new grille and filler plate. PM me if you'don't like to buy the panel or entire grille with panel pre-installed.

Hey I need one too, just bought a 2013 white S6 (coming form a 08 550I sport) and the S6 is so much more fun to drive! Cant justify $165 at the dealer. I ordered one off ebay for an a6 but the grooves don't line up right and it is black. I need one in grey to match the 13 S6 grill. PM me if you have one. Thanks guys, love the forum!

I'm about to be in the same boat. All of my previous cars of been registered in Michigan, no front plate. I'm finally going to be moving over and registering in Illinois and they're very strict about front plates in Chicago. Has anybody tried one of the set ups on a C7?

    Hey welcome to Chicago!

I was thinking about doing that, but realize it would be more of a hassle. If the cop catches you while driving you can't just run out of your car and pull it out. While parking the car in the city, you would constantly have to readjust the plates. Too much of a thing for me to want to do.

We just got a '13 allroad, from FL without license plate holder....the velcro idea sounds easy vs. drilling or replacing grille - do you have any pictures? And - no problems with it coming off? Seems like would be easy prey for thieves (though perhaps if anyone's going to steal your plate, a few screws are almost as easy).....and what about snow? We spend a lot of time in the mountains.....

Did you end up doing this? I need to replace my non-plate delete, so if you still have it and are willing to part with it, let me know!
