    Rear Differential flange problem Quattro.

My sonīs A4 Q was leaking oil in differential and when I was cleaning the flange, joint before removal
I felt like it was loose so I assumed that the bolt in middle was loose that was holding the flange.
When I did change the seals I measured that right flange could be moved in and out approx. 2mm / 0.079in
Bolt in middle of flange was tight
    Left side is OK
No abnormal noise, oil looks fine when I changed oil after replacing flange seal.
How to fix this issue have someone a blueprint of the differential how to adjust the clearance?

It is Quattro weather in Sweden and my son like to have some fun with the car....

    Mine does it too.
I plan to rebuild a used diff this spring and assume it will behave similarly pre-rebuild.

I think it's a big part of my driveline clunk but it doesn't seem to be getting worse so I've been driving around with it for a while now.

EDIT: I've read mixed opinions on the subject.

I would like to see somebody do a DIY on tightening up these rear diffs. I feel like they are to blame for a lot of the driveline slop on these cars. I also plan on rebuilding the used differential I have sitting around at some point. I'll definitely document when I do it.

Last week i was doing my wheel bearings and notice that my diff seals were leaking, I ran up to the stealership and paid 60 bucks for 3 dollar seals on ecs! Seems like its a common problem on these cars but not a big deal if you can't get to it right away, but i would rather tackle the job sooner rather than later!!

I looked on etka today and it looks like there are shims to take up this play. I would imagine they're probably meant to be installed along with a new bearing.

That would be a nice DIY. I also feel lots of slop. Not quite a clunk, kind like thud, more like thunk. Gives it character.
But Mine seems to be getting worse when I downshift hard. Definitely seems that the rear end has more play than the gear box.

Looking into repairing all of my cars vibrations and noises and found this thread...

Correct me if I'm wrong but there should be no radial play and very little axial play in the axle inner joint to-flange? Is that right?

If there is radial play it is more than likely that side's diff bearings out of tolerance..?

Just noticed this is for the B5, I am experiencing this in my B6...
