Here in Illinois, we need front plates. The suburbs are pretty lenient but the city of Chicago being the crooks that they are anal and will ticket no ands, ifs, or buts'. We go to the city often but hate the look so I made a quick and easy mod that that you can put and pull off in literally 2 seconds. Here's a cheap, reversible, and damage free mod to add/remove the front license plate in our q7. Very easy and all you really need are some really need are some really strong magnets, gorilla glue, and plastidip(optional)

    1. Remove the filler plate from the car and spray with plastidip. You can skip this but it protects the filler plate and I did didn't like the shininess of filler plate.

    2. Up to you how to measure, but make sure to glue the magnets centrally behind the filler plate. As long as the spacing is less than the size of the license plate you're ok. *MAKE SURE TO TRIPLE CHECK THE POLARITY* It can get confusing and you don't want it repelling the plate.

    3. Glue the other magnets on the license plate. * CHECK POLARITY * Wait for glue to dry

    4. Place your plate by the front and let the magnets do the work!! If they're not straight you can mess around with the magnets on the license plate but if you measures accurately you should be ok.

    5. Without plate

End result with the plate and the it's older, smaller sibling. I removed the plastidip on the chrome strips since I didn't like the all black filler plate.

*I have also had this mod for over 6 months to see how it holds up and it's holding up well. Driven in all conditions even w strong wind. The key is to get a strong enough magnets also. I believe I had over 8lbs magnetic weight. Totally reversible and little to not damage to filler and front license plate.

Looks great, it's nice that you can remove the plate anytime!
