Sway bar DIY for the Q5?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just got the Ecode sways from Kelly (K | G - great transaction, btw). Is this something I can swap on the Q? If so, is there a DIY? Tried searching, but nothing came up....

    TIA

034 has a DIY PDF posted on their website. It's pretty simple after you lower the exhaust. Here's a link:

Eurocode used to have an installation guide on their site. Try emailing them, they should be able to email it to you.

I think it's not online because I heard they were recently out of stock of the sway bars, but they should be able to provide you the install guide via email. Here is a sway bar install guide for the B8 S4, which may help. ( Click Here )

Ended up having my indie shop install them. Wow, do they make a difference! Tightens up braking, too.

OEM sways are 30mm (F) and 22.5mm (R), so 2mm gain up front and 3mm gain in back.

Most everyone seems to agree that modifying the front sway-bar increases under-steer.
Have you noticed it yet? Have you ever done a track day so you could notice, before & after?

I have the front on the soft setting and rear on stiff setting. I've been driving it very aggressive this evening and I don't notice any understeer. The Q feels a lot more stable (even on 19" 55 a/s tires).

My RS4 suffered from understeer and I changed the PSI in the tires and got most of it to go away. If I experience any in the Q while on summer tire set up, I'll adjust the tire pressures and go from there.

    I also have Alu Kreuz.

I've never noticed under-steer on the road, no matter how aggressively I drive it. The track is another story, though. Hitting the throttle after the apex at a decent clip will induce under-steer. Letting up transforms it to an over-steer drift. It never feels out of control, but it's the limiting factor of high-speed cornering. I believe there is a happy medium in between the two, and I intend to find it this Monday at our ACNA/ACLS track day.

I have the 034 X-Brace, and all of the other 034 tranny & diff inserts. I'll also have the 034 rear sway-bar as soon as they finish one that fits. The stock front sway-bar is perfectly fine. There are several other threads that touch on this topic.

Can't specifically speak to the Q/SQ (though I'd assume it's the same), but doing both front and rear seem to be the preferred way to go for the other B8s (S4/S5). The Eurocode F/R set are the go-to for those cars.

While it's completely true that upgrading JUST the rear bar will give the biggest change in balance towards oversteer, my understanding is that upgrading both increases the handling limit, so even if the car is a bit more neutral (more understeer/less oversteer prone, comparatively) at the limit, the point at which it reaches that limit should still be higher than with just the rear bar. And still is more balanced/neutral compared to stock.

Here's a good review where a member compares having just the rear bar installed to having both installed.

With the full setup (front and rear sways and endlinks), the car feels like it wants to push (understeer) a bit more through corners than it did with just the upgraded rear bar and links, BUT it also feels like it hooks up better when I roll back onto the throttle after the apex of the turn. Meanwhile with just the rear bar and links installed I felt like the car was closer to being able to rotate with throttle application, but it didn't feel as confident putting down power out of a turn. Not bad by any means, and better than stock IMO, but not quite as good as with the entire setup installed.

Well, I noticed quite a bit more stability on high speed turns (think curvy freeways and higher-speed mountain roads). I'm not going to track the Q5.... I have my RS4 for that. Overall though, it's been a great upgrade to the Q5.
