Reimbursement from Audicare on scheduled maintenance I paid for?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought my 2013 S4 used from a local non-audi dealership labor day of last year at 28k miles and have been performing my own maintenance or taking it to Solomotorsports here in north Atlanta.

Recently, I had just take then S4 to Solomotorsports for a brake flush, ATF fluid change, and oil change. They informed me the water pump was leaking, so I scheduled a time the following day to bring it to the dealer to have the water pump replaced and airbag module recall performed.

The fella at the service desk of the dealership asked if I had been doing all my own maintenance, which I had, and proceeded to inform me the vehicle still had Audicare on it and all scheduled maintenance was covered.... I about shit myself .

So in speaking with a friend of mine who is a tech at a GM dealership, he stated that if a customer did not know his vehicle had GM Care and paid to have scheduled maintenance done, that he will be reimbursed what he paid. Granted, I do not know if the stipulation was that the scheduled service was performed at a dealership and he paid for said service, which puts the service dept at fault for not informing the customer of his GM Care..... or if maintenance was performed at an independent shop.

I haven't spoken to the dealership yet, but has anyone ever been through an experience like this and had an outcome similar to the GM Care situation?

Good luck. You do have a valid reason for asking though.

I received a notice in the mail regarding my airbag recall.... since yours is a 2015, it may already have the recall applied from the dealer when you bought it.

CPO doesn't matter. When Audii Care is purchased for the vehicle it stays with the vehicle.

yes, but what if the previous owner had already used it several times before selling it? can you get partial reimbursement? I wouldn't think so

I'm not sure what you're asking. I'm only speaking of scheduled maintenance that occurs beyond my point of purchase and I'm mainly concerned about the $700 I just dropped with a oil change, ATF change, and brake flush.

Well but he wouldnt be asking for a refund. He would be filing a claim against coverage the car should have. Their system should have validated the VIN and told the dealer the car has Audi Care???

He bought from non Audi dealer so they had no clue. He should've checked with the dealer before doing any service in the first place.

Yep, wish I had thought to visit dealer. Ignorant to the whole issue with Audicare, so I'll just have to be aware if/when I trade up.

Good point, 14S4GWM. One can also call Audi of America, give the vin, and get all kinds of info such as vehicle options, service history, audicare, extended warranty, recalls, etc. As for this OP's original question, I would think Audi wouldn't be on the hook to refund for any services performed by an indy shop, but they would be if performed and charged at an Audi dealership since the dealer would have had access to the Audicare info.

It might be worth asking Audi of America if they would add back a comparable service to 'make up' for the services they didn't end up doing, but that's a Hail Mary and I wouldn't hold my breath.

How would anyone casually know they had Audicare after resale? I only found out about my remaining Audicare because I brought the car in for a recall. I also learned mine was a CPO car, but that did not stay with the car because I bought it from a dealer. I lost the CPO warranty, but retained the Audicare.

One casually wouldn't know. But in my case after reading the forums for 6 months before purchasing my car I knew everything that should've been checked and asked.

Your car may have had it done at the port. IT was a reprogramming for air bag . Mine delivered in Nov 2014 originally showed recall it later showed none. Sales person said it would have been done at the port .go to www.audiusa.com. My audi. And check for recalls that are still open.4

Talk to the service advisor and see if they will do anything for you. Might in an effort to earn your business, but.....

Your asking for a refund for something you didnt pay for or know existed. I say like others, SOL and lesson a life lesson learned.

I think you would have a better chance going back to who sold you the vehicle and trying to get refunded (or partially) through them.
Audi sold the service plan, it's up to the customer to take care of it from that point IMO.

That is awfully generous of GM to do, but once again that is if they screw up and don't let you know its covered. Looking from Audis perspective, I would say it was the non-audi dealers responsibility to tell you it had audi care and that you choosing to do your maintenance elsewhere is not recommended by Audi, otherwise you would have found out you were covered by Audicare. They may prove me wrong though but I've had a shit experience with their service department haha.

I agree with the gentleman above, you should go back to the dealer that sold you the car and complain you are out $X because they did not let you know it had the audicare plan and try to get reimbursed. Hopefully that work documentation was kept.

Audi already made the money by selling Audicare why in the world would they want you to use it? LOL. Chalk it up and take that L, I wouldn't expect anything other then a blank stare from the service writer.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

When I bought mine CPO, the sales rep never even mentioned it had Audicare and I didn't find out until I went to schedule 35k service. SA said, "I see you have Audicare" and I thought "holy shit, what a bonus, I just saved another 1k on the car!". Here's one time where it was a good thing I took it to the dealer for service first, lol!

Good luck. Doesn't hurt to reach out to AoA and see what they can do. I doubt you will receive funds back but they may extend the warranty or similar. Give them the opportunity to do "something" for you, but don't expect much. It was your mistake, not theirs...
I also highly doubt what your GM friend told you... not saying he's a liar but people say things sometimes out of their asses. A tech would not really know this sorta thing either.

If anything, just have Audi do the service again that you missed... or perhaps AoA can extend your Audicare by 1 or 2 services.... (it's supposed to end at 50k)

Or ask them to give you the supplies they would have used like oil, filters, etc. if they aren't willing to extend.

Although the oil is probably bulk fill, I think this is the most "winnable" option.

If you bought it with 28k just last labor day, odds are you only missed one service, maybe not even that? Just start to use it. If the original owner used it at 25k, then you would be entitled to your 35k service. Go get it done there and make use of it! Even if you just did a service yourself, see if you can schedule the 35k service at 40k. Don't let it go to waste. Go get the fresh oil (and DSG I think), even if it's only been a few thousand miles. They may require the service light to be on, which is not hard at all todo with VAGCOM.

Maybe if you bought it CPO, but from a non-audi dealer save ur time man.

FWIW the dealership didn't tell me my CPO had Audicare but I had a friend who is an SA run the records for me and it showed up there.

I don't agree 100%. I had AOA fix a lot of things on my A4. Non CPO purchased used

Clutch/flywheel (my hotel and food costs while my car was down)
Cams and fuel pump rebuild after 120,000 miles (2 times) and not at AUDI dealership because I was tuned.
New front sub frame cross bar when I cracked it hitting a pot hole.

This car: (reasons were different for this car)
    Clutch and flywheel
    New long block.

OP it can't hurt trying to give AOA a call. If you get the right person they can help out a lot.

The service rep said he would be happy to do a brake flush and oil change anyway for the 45k service since I'm at 44k. I'll ask him and if necessary AoA about reimbursement for materials such as oils and fluids and or maybe even credit for those services I missed to be applied to future visits such as ATF change at 70k and two future oil changes.

I just need to work on structuring the argument such that I know it is my fault, but if they would be so kindly to extend the services. Probably my best bet.

IMO You will have better luck with AOA. To AOA you are a new customer with a nice car. The dealership you are a customer who bought your car somewhere else and trying to get your free service.

Incorrect, AoA could care less. You bought your car they don't care if you buy another.

From the help I have received from AOA over my last two Audis I disagree.
