S Front Bumper Diffuser Color

So I recently purchased a used S5 front bumper cover from an Audizine member. It has some slight damage that will need to be repaired, and also it is black and my car is quartz silver. I'm going to get it paint matched obviously but I've been contemplating what color to paint the diffuser. The current stock A5 front bumper cover on my car has the diffuser painted quartz silver. With the S front bumpers, I've noticed this usually isn't the case. For example, the bumper I bought is brilliant black but the diffuser piece itself is a glossy silver color. I've done a little bit of looking around at pictures and I'm having trouble deciding what I want. I noticed that Mops' old 5 had a black diffuser. Our cars look a lot alike in my opinion (Though his was definitely cooler). His car was Avus silver. I think the quartz silver and Avus look fairly similar. Just trying to give an idea of what my car looks like, but maybe posting a picture would be easier...

ANYWAY, I've been thinking of getting the whole bumper, including the diffuser, painted quartz silver. I'll leave the 3 "pillars" in the back as black, though. I'm wondering what some other people's opinions are on this. Would it make the bumper look less "OEM?" Seems like most silver S5's have the diffuser painted black. Thoughts?

Thanks! Yeah, I finally found one. Took a lot of searching, but it was worth it. Paying like $1300 for a brand new one was just too much.

The more I think about it, I've been starting to lean towards black. I do want it to look "OEM," and black would be the ticket for that. Just seemed like the black was a little hard to even tell it was there in certain pictures, but I'm sure in person its much different. It does go really well with the black fog grills and fog rings, which is what I will have. I also plan to get my window trim wrapped in black too, I just haven't been able to find anyone around here that will do it, strange as it sounds. I've called everywhere. But anyway, it would go really well with that too.

do you have the s-line splitter or s5 splitter? if you have the oem s-line splitter, i would do black or a dark dark grey. if you have the s5 splitter, id leave it alum.

That is the alu looks splitter. Steve/BK has that one on his.

I like the black, and it kinda disappears, and shows that beautiful bumper cover line, and mates with the grille too.

with ur color car, I agree that a dark color may work better. just never really seen the s5 splitter painted a diff color I don't think.

but for me, its the opposite. since the car is black, I want the splitter to pop, so I left it alum. I might pick up a CF one down the road, but im enjoying the contrast as of now

Why not get it painted the same color as the rest of the bumper and then add a black wrap? You can always peel it off or change the color and should you come to sell it you can put it back to a standard all one color bumper.

I think it looks better with black too.

That's a good idea James. That way I could try both. I'll dwell on it a bit longer...


The more I've looked at pictures the more I am leaning towards black. It appears that the standard seems to be whatever color the main center grille (silver or black) is the color of the splitter. I couldn't find any pictures of a gray 5, with a black center grille and ALUM splitter. If anyone wants to prove me wrong please go ahead, as I would like to see for comparison.

I'll probably have them paint it all quartz silver, then wrap the splitter black as James suggested. If I don't like it, I can always remove it. Best of both IMO. Plus, wrapping is really cheap isn't it?

yea it looks good in alum with a silver s5 or non blackoptics grille

im really thinking about it tbh since im not gonna wrap anymore. thought about picking up that used one but its way too damaged for my liking lol.

I need freakin skirts first. I feel my modding is all out of priority lolol

Thanks for the pictures BK. I was having a hard time finding those specific ones. I kind of like the top one.

What I think this all comes down to is what color trim is on the car. If its black window trim, black fog trims, black front grille trim, then go with black for the diffuser.

On the other hand, if I kept my silver window trim, left the fogs silver and put the silver front grille trim back on my car, I think painting it alum (Or actually just same color of the car would look best I think) would look really good (See first picture in BK's post).

Since I'm planning on painting (I can't find a place that will wrap) my window trim black, I think black is what I'm going to go with. I really appreciate everyone's input and help with pictures. Thanks!

Just remember paint is more prone to rock chips vs vinyl

And I agree. If u have other silver accents leaving it alum or colormatch isnt bad imo either way the most important thing is u have an s front!!!
