good set of coilovers for RS4??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just purchased my B7 RS4. it's all stock minus the miltek exhaust. I'm shopping around for a set of coilovers. what do some of you guys have on yours and how do you like it? how's the handling? I'm not trying to track the car, just daily drive it. also, I'm looking for adjustable coilovers and not too bouncy or too stiff. thanks!!

Can't go wrong with Ohlins, KW V3 or PSS9's all really nice offerings for the chassis.

I am assuming everyone with Ohlins are talking about Stasis MS. If you can not buy them now are they really relevant to the discussion. Obviously you can buy used.

Ive ridden on H&Rs, kw v3 clubsports and bilstein(mine). They are all going to ride stiffer then stock, no matter what everyone says. I have never sat in a coilover setup that rode smoother then OEM.

Nope, Check 034 Motorsports. They carry TTX Ohlins, different level entirely than the Stasis kit. Other sellers carry them too, I just cant recall off the top of my head.

TTX will be better than any of the other options mentioned, but realistically most people aren't tracking their cars so TTX is likely more than you need. Any higher end damper will require rebuilds. Lower end like ground control "don't require rebuilds" but will only last a certain amount of time before performance gradually falls off. There isn't really any damper that performs at 100% of new for its entire life.

Now an interesting thing about the TTX for track applications is that the standard setting doesn't allow enough suspension droop on the rears. Bc of this, hard corners can cause the inner rear tire to lift. They are suppose to be correcting this though. There are similar issues for the TTX e46 M3 setups.

My point which was not too clear is most of the ppl that are saying they have Ohlins have Stasis MS which is not an option.

I know about the TTX Ohlins...but most don't have them bc they close to 6K.

Valid point, not many can give firsthand experience with the TTX, though their reputation does precede themselves. Definitely too rich for my blood...

OP: Another option for the lower budget is the KW H.A.S. which keeps stock DRC. Despite the horror stories a lot of the stock systems still function fine, and if yours does, it may be a viable option.

As far as I know BC only has A4/S4 applications and KW only offers the V3 for the B7 RS4. The V3s are great, handle and ride amazing and come with a lifetime warranty.

While I respect this opinion and I am sure some will agree; I'm going to have to disagree. Once I had my V3s put on I can honestly say I thought the ride was significantly improved. Perhaps it is just the settings but the car is not only more planted and more supple but it also felt significantly smoother on highway and even on less than desirable road conditions. It was the perfect blend of performance and comfort. They are a great set of coils for daily driving and with some adjustments I am sure they will be formidable in a track setting.

The OEM suspension certainly did not wow me. It was good but I thought it was even a little harsher than I would have liked, maybe it was just a tired system (I took it off with zero leaks and no signs of significant problems).

I agree on the ride coils versus stock; once I put my PSS9 to 9 (softest setting), they are just as soft as stock if not softer. However, not all versions/brands have adjustable dampeners which I strongly recommend for the reason of setting them to your own preference.

Agreed! The DRC is hard to beat! But to say "all coilovers are going to make the ride stiffer" is a little harsh. I was happy with the DRC, a little floaty at high speeds, but it handled well in cornering which was the most important thing. It's why I cringe when people replace their DRC with something inferior. If you're going to replace the DRC, please upgrade!

I went from Stasis Motorsports to TTX Ohlins, and I don't track the car. I do drive the car hard in canyon/mountain roads. They are significantly more comfortable than any other coilover available for our car, and also handle significantly better. I've had KW V3's, and they aren't anywhere close to the TTX's, since on "soft" (comfortable) settings they are actually soft, and don't handle all that well.

Yes, they are $6k, but it's worth it. :)
