I went a different route than you. I still visit Golf Mk7 forums (I owned a Golf 7R and saw @DeAutoLED released a newer oversized and "brighter" LED bulb for the Mk7 European LED tail lights (see http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27544). These oversized bulbs uses a BaY9s base which does not fit North American A3/S3 8V models that uses a BaX9s base. So I simply asked if they could also make me am oversized bulb but for it in a BaX9s with their Mk7 group buy. 2 weeks later I received the units and here are my observations and experience:

    1. The bulb is indeed oversized and just a smidge to big to fit our housings

    2. This is NOT for everybody but I enlarged the opening using a soldering iron method to melt the plastic. I didn't use a rotary tool to grind the housing because I hate fine plastic shavings stuck in the light housing.

    3. This new bulb does seem to have more output than the factory incandescent reverse bulb. I didn't have a light meter to measure output, just pics of the spread on back of garage door.

    4. From outside in the dark or daylight, the color is very bright white vs. factory yellow.

    5. From inside the cabin, it does seem to have more light output when looking at the MMI screen during backup. However, if you're looking for a white output on the screen, it's NOT going to be there. That's because the LED bulb white output is mixed with the A3/S3 strong red LED tail lamps. I'm sure it's still very white white from the outside but inside the cabin, it's a mishmash of red/white on that screen.

Overall, I think this is a good upgrade; it's bright and error free. From the outside, people will see a bright white reverse light. Just don't expect it to look that crisp white on the MMI screen for reverse.
