Smile My christmas present: New S6 order!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and have been lurking for some time. I’ve been dreaming of owning an Audi over the past few years, but family and lifestyle didn't make it practical. Until this summer we were living in Colorado, and had lots of other toys and hobbies that demanded a pickup truck, so it had to wait. Of course, my wife had both her family-mobile mini van, AND her baby - a 2012 Camaro SS in the garage, but I had to wait.... But I digress. Such is life, right?

Fast forward and we relocated back to the Bay Area for work this past summer. I still had some reasons not to make the switch from a truck to a car (we still had a camper trailer we might need a truck to haul that hadn’t sold yet), and there was this little point of contention that the car I wanted was more expensive than both of her cars combined. Ignoring all of that, I spent a lot of time researching and pining, and actually test drove an S6 a few months ago on my own. I was looking at RS5’s and S7’s, but since we have 3 kids and I’m the school dropper-offer in the mornings, I needed a 4 door and 5 seats. S6 It would have to be. Someday. I had everything picked out and knew exactly what I wanted should that day ever come.

We sold the camper in Colorado, and suddenly a pickup isn't necessarily a requirement (though I've never been without one), nor is it super practical in Silicon Valley.

Going into the holidays, we had been going through the typical “What do you want for christmas? I can’t think of anything to get you.” dance, and I jokingly said “What I want has 4 rings on the front of it.”. She laughed sarcastically. I laughed with hope and despair. We all laughed, it was great!

Imagine my surprise when she called me while she was out xmas shopping one evening and said "Hey, why don't we go down and order your car? Nothing really stopping it now, and that can be your christmas present."

Thoughts raced through my mind: “don’t pee”... “is she serious?”...“what’s the catch?”...“this is going to bite you down the road”…“stop thinking, you’ll jinx it!"

Turns out she was serious, and doesn’t deserve any of the sarcastic joking I’m laying down at her expense here. As far as I’m concerned she’s the best wife ever, and gave me a pretty freaking awesome present for christmas.

First we test drove one together on 12/21, then we went down and placed the order 12/23. Even after all the meticulous planning and double checking, I still screwed it up and had to make a change . We missed the black headliner, and I dropped the cold weather package in order to keep the flat bottom steering wheel. I notified the dealer as soon as I realized it on 12/26, and waited for them to get back to me. They got in touch with me on 12/29 and the order had already been locked for changes. Long story short, they worked with the regional GM, did some jockeying, and submitted a new order to my specs. I was really surprised it was locked so soon.

    So here’s the updated order:

    Comm # JC4763
    2016 S6
    Sepang Blue
    Prestige
    Black Comfort Seats
    Black Headliner
    Layered black wood/Aluminum Inlays
    Black Optics
    Driver Assistance Package
    S6 Sport Package
    Rear side airbags

To say I’m excited is an understatement. Can’t wait to join the family!

Out of curiosity, is anyone able/willing to look up my Comm status? My sales guy is on vacation for the next couple weeks.

    Congrats!!
I ordered an S7 Sept 15th and it will be landing in San Diego next week........feels like it's been a year.
I only received notifications when they got the order, when it was being built and when it was at the dock in Germany.
Not sure if these were the "order progress emails" mentioned above.

My dealer said Audi has recently changed there inventory/ tracking system and he was not very helpful with shipping information. The best he could do was provide the ship number- which is almost worthless because free on-line tracking systems use the ship name. Audi sent me an email when it was on the dock in Emden, Germany.

HOWEVER, as soon as Audi tells you your baby is ready to ship, get the ship number from the dealer (mine was a3 digit number) then go to this link and follow the instructions.
    http://www.audiworld.com/forums/audi...sland-2809782/

You will be able to cross the ship number in the "manifest" to find the name of the carrier. Then you are golden and you can track it on line.
The manifest is updated monthly so one month after it ships you will not have access to the information because it rolls off.

I'm not an expert but I have lived on the forums for over 3 months and now have a good handle on things.

    Enjoy your new ride!!

My christmas present: New S6 order!

Great story and congrats. I'm in Colorado, have a truck and camper, so I can relate. I find every reason to go drive my S6. Best car I've owned so far. I am putting an R8 in the sites in a few years.

Those are the build progress emails.

My build was on light speed. So fast, they skipped the built email and went straight to European port email. It is scheduled for dealer delivery before the end of January making it less than 3 months for an Audi exclusive order end to end.

Just got an update from my dealer:

    Actual production week: 1416
    Assigned Port: San Diego
    Current Location: Germany Factory
    Holds: No
    Order Created: 12/30/2015
    Factory Submitted: 1/20/2015

So If I understand the production date of 1416, it should go to production the week of 3/21.

Starting to bounce off the walls a bit :) Two weeks ago I got an updated logistics screenshot from my dealer that showed the production week had moved up from 1416 to 1116 (this week!). The screenshot had these fields (others left out for brevity):

    Assigned port: San Diego
    Ship departure: 3/19/2016
    Domestic port arrived: 4/14/2016
    Ocean Shipping Vessel: <blank>

Interestingly there are no ships on the PWL schedule leaving Emden or arriving in San Diego - none at all. I went over to Wallenius Wilhelmsen at http://www.2wglobal.com and found a ship called the Asian Emperor that leaves Bremerhaven 3/19 and arrives in Port Hueneme north of San Diego on 4/14 - the same dates on the logistic sheet.

Today I got the European Port email from Audi so I'm pretty sure its getting loaded shortly. I'm going to wait a couple days and ask for an updated logistics sheet from the dealer to see if the ports/ship name have an update.

At this point I'm thinking there's a strong possibility it will be on the Asian Emperor leaving Bremerhaven in a day or so. marinetraffic.com shows it in port in Bremerhaven getting ready to set sail soon.

Does anyone know if Audi may have shifted some routes (namely the west coast US) to Bremerhaven/Wallenius Wilhelmsen rather than Emden/PWL? Like I said, there are no ships listed for San Diego on the latest sheet from PWL.

So stoked its on its way!

Well my baby should be back on dry land today!

The logistics info I got from the dealer listed ocean shipping vessel 162. Unfortunately that ship never appeared on any of the schedules published by PWL or the other carriers. After about a week of searching for into and trying to guess which ship it was, I finally emailed the kinds folks at PWL and asked the vessel name for Vessel 162. They came back a business day later and let me know it was the Glovis Century. Sweet! It never did show up on the ship schedule they had but it left Emden and was scheduled to arrive in San Diego on he dates listed in the Audi sheet.

Well it arrived in San Diego on Friday and anchored outside the port over the weekend. Came into port this morning!

Now I'm trying to guess how long until it's here in San Jose. I think folks figure that the "US Port" email from
Audi comes when it's released and loaded on a truck right? Haven't got that yet.

davelong9050 - how long did it take to get to you after the boat arrived?

I'm guessing mine is being close to being shipped out as it populated on the dealers website. I cannot wait, the excitement is unreal.

Yeah, I had a little freakout when I searched the vin on Google and it showed up as dealer stock - all sorts of thoughts about them advertising my car for sale etc :) Its all normal apparently, and happens when the car completes production.

It took a day for my bimmer to go from hueneme to north bay, a day in receiving, a day to clean it up and release to me. If your audi dealer is anything like that you should have it by/before the weekend.

Sweet, that's what I figured. The dealer is expecting the car toward the end of June. I'm hoping it shows up sooner than that lol

Well, mine completed production I think 3/18, boarded the ship on 3/22 in Emden, and just got off today 4/25 in San Diego. It stopped in Antwerp, went to Veracruz Mexico, and then through the Panama Canal and straight to San Diego. I'm expecting 1.5 weeks to get to me in Nor Cal. Might give you an idea.

I'm trying to keep a lid on my excitement/expectations, but man that would be freaking awesome.

My baby is finally here! Took the day off work and picked her up yesterday. Spent the afternoon causing with the family and letting a Z06 chase us up the hills. What an amazing car! I don't think the grin has left my face in over 24 hours :) Planning to take her to OCDetailing in Walnut Creek for Xpel, Tint and Paint coating soon. Here's some pics - love the layered aluminum inlays!

Beautiful car! If I could change anything on mine it would be the wood and silver inlays but I have the Red Arras package so I didn't have a choice. Enjoy it, great car. Btw- I ordered mine July of last year and just got it 6 weeks ago!

This is awesome to see. It's exactly what I have ordered (minus the inlays).

    Looks hot. Good choice!

Thanks all! Not in the pics, but the car has comfort seats as well. I'm so glad I got them. They fit really nicely and have decent adjustable bolsters so they can grip you similar to the sport seats. The ventilation and the not to be understated massage functions are fantastic. Nothing like having your car work the kinks out of your back on the drive to work every morning
