    Oil/filter change using extractor...

My fluid extractor arrived a few days early, along with OEM filters. Therefore, I performed the 10K service on my allroad last night. After figuring out how to connect and use the extractor, the complete process took me about 25mins. Had I fired up the compressor and used the pneumatic portion, I'm certain, the process would have been much faster. Aside from manually pumping the extractor every 5mins to produce vacuum, I have no complaints! The process was painless and very mess-FREE.

I still do it from under. I have an oil extractor that I use on my dads sailboat. I tried it with my b8 and it worked but couldn't suck out everything compared to draining it out.

Brave soul. As someone with a replaced lower drain pan, due to DEALER error, I'll still stick with extraction...

That's why I do not take my car to the dealer... Lol. Changed it close to 15 times without a problem.

You can use an extractor or anything that has an oil dipstick.

I typically switch between extracting and doing from below ever other oil change since I change my oil every 5000 miles. If the filter was on the bottom, I wouldn't even bother with extracting.

For some reason i cannot remove more than half the oil from my engine using my Pella extractor...no luck for me, have to do it from underneath.

How are you measuring what you've extracted? The Pella works fine for me with 3 extractions so far. I'm guessing about .5L is left in the filter and I get over 4L out. Perhaps you are pushing the tube in too far and it's curling?

I've always changed the oil on all of my cars and find the A4 to be rediculously easy to do. Zero mess draining it properly from the pan.

Dealers use the extraction method because it's easier for them....

Are you making sure the extractor tube is at the bottom of the pan? My extractor pulls out slightly less than 5 liters so I'm pretty much extracting the most that I can.

I don't like the extractor method either my buddy across from me has an Avant too and i told home he could have mine because I don't see the point in pumping the entire time when I can just do it from underneath quicker. Tried multiple size lines and various depths and, still get the same results.

Had this problem initially, until I remembered someone's recommendation to open the fill cap ... no problems since.

Dealers use the extraction method because there's a service bulletin to do so.

The pan has a threaded insert that's welded into place. It's very easy to strip and it cannot be re-threaded.

    It's a $700 repair.

I do mine the old fashion way. Maybe once I see or use an extractor I may change my mind about this.
