Temp gauge and stumbling issue ?

Ok so I drove my car to town this morning to drop my son off at school apon arriving home the car started to stumble and the temp gauge went from the half mark to cold, also noticed while this was happening that the cooling fans for the radiator were on full blast. I scanned the car for codes and only got one for the 02 sensor reading rich. Can't imagine that would cause issues with my temp gauge. Any ideas fellas thanks

You need to replace your thermostat. It's stuck open

Brand new as of a week ago but I guess it could be a bad one. I was wondering if maybe the temp sensor was going bad that if I'm not mistaken controls the temp gauge correct

Glad my thermostat isn't doing this. Been stuck for a little while now, changing it this weekend though.

The fans will come on full blast whenever there is a coolant system malfunction or similar fault code. The temp sensor in the coolant flange on the back of the cylinder head is where the gauge gets its reading from. Could be a faulty sensor but could also be a faulty thermostat. I had one fail on me within a week a while back. It was a cheap no name brand one. I would recommend only using OEM or at least OEM supplier for the b6 and b7 thermostats.

Fixed it, it was not the thermostat also when I replaced my thermostat it was with a oem unit. Turned out to be the coolant temp sensor, replaced it and everything is good.
