So I've got an 02 A6 with the 2.7t that I've done pretty much everything needed to go stage 3 over the last year and a couple weeks ago as I was getting off the highway my car wouldn't go into second gear at all... Ok do the whole updated shift collar, synchro deal and it'll be back. Well as it's getting colder its becoming a bit more willing to go into second until the car has been driven awhile and its been nice to have second gear back. The other thing I noticed with the cold weather is that the first time I go thru the gears and get into 6th the clutch will slip and after that it's fine. I put a clutch masters fx300 in it right about a year ago to the day and im wondering if anyone else has noticed this and what did they find when the tore it down. I'm guessing the disc is shot and I'm going to need to replace it again. Thanks

clutch masters is notorious for failing with under 10000k of daily driving. get a rs4 hybrid or even a oem rs4 clutch if you want something to last

check your shifter linkage. never heard of a 1-2 collar seizing then freeing up and working again

Yea I thought that it would be weird to start working again too but the day it happened I was down the interstate at about 90mph for 10 or 15 miles and my thought was that it was pretty warm causing it to show and now that its 10 degrees outside its really cold causing the expansion and contraction rate to swing further than normal either way causing 2 dissimilar metals to get tighter and looser than normal... say an rs4 disk will hold up to a stage three car driven "spirited"? on a regular basis? I've got a JHM short shifter on the car and my initial thought was to adjust the linkage but when I put it in I marked both bolt / shaft locations and theyre holding steady along with the few degrees back and slightly to the right orientation its always had. The transmission always had a noise in second gear I could hear riding next to a wall with the window down. I figure its a pitted gear or a bearing?

really depends on how you treat it. mines been fine, holds stage 3 power in an allroad so. I don't launch or do anything that abusive other than some pulls here and there and hard acceleration
