I can't find much about DK online but apparently it's the paint protection all the dealers sell here.
Does anyone have experience with either that might help me decide between the two? Thanks in advance!
Diamond Kote is out of Canada and has a good reputation. Sounds like your detailer is similar to me - not certified to offer OptiCoat Pro, but able to sell and apply the lower tier(ed) products. FWIW, OptiCoat v2.0 was discontinued quite some time ago, and replaced with Gloss Coat. Basically an update and name change, but it does seem to be a better product. Between the two, I'd choose the Optimum, but that's only because of my familiarity with it. Between my Q, my wife's car, and a bit more than a dozen customer cars over a 2+ year period, I'm very impressed.

Up until 1998 or so, you'd be correct. At that point, polymer sealants came on the market and proved to be far superior to waxes in terms of protection. To this day, it's hard to argue the cosmetic effects of a nice wax, but in terms of protection there's simply no comparison. 4-5 years ago, ceramic coatings made a quantum leap over sealants, and the protection (and appearance) is undeniable. Near bulletproof protection, extremely low maintenance, and gloss/reflection/wetness that comes close to quality waxes.
There's nothing wrong with frequent care including your favorite wax - quality washing efforts and fresh wax will keep your finish protected from the elements as well as light scratches and marring - but there really is no comparison to a quality ceramic coating that has been well-applied over a well-corrected finish.
And there's the key. Most dealer products can be classified as snake oil, but it's not just an indictment on the product. Preparation is VITAL, even on a brand new car. For dealers, this is strictly a high margin add-on, and they won't invest the time or money to do this right. Honestly, this is why many folks are shocked at the price of a good finish correction detail and an application of OptiCoat Pro (or CQuartz Finest). These things have to be measured over time for the value to become obvious - both in terms of protection, appearance, and ease of maintenance.
I hope that helps.
