Interesting 2010 A4 Passenger Vent Rattle

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
On my 2010 A4, I have a constant rattle from the passenger vent when the heat is on. It doesn't matter what setting the vents are blowing from nor the speed of the fan. When I switch on the A/C, the sound goes away. Does anyone have any thoughts on what it could be? I feel like the fact that it's heat related is definittely a clue, I just don't know what this means yet.

I tried taking the vent out the other night but that wasn't the issue.

    Thanks in advance!

I've got the EXACT same issue, and I also have a 2010 A4; I noticed that it mostly seems to come in winter when I'm running heat. Haven't taken it apart yet to see though.

I used to have something like this in my 2013. My advice to you if it isnt that bad, is to ignore it. I've seen people dismantle their dash to find things only to make new ones. That said I haven't heard your rattle and it could be super annoying. Mine went away.

You're exactly right, it's a winter-only issue. It started at the end of last winter, I all but forgot about it, and here we are again. It's quite annoying and is near constant so I'd really like to figure this out if possible.

Tonight I ran the heat when my car was parked in the garage and not running. It makes the noise regardless of if you're driving or not. Accordingly, I'm starting to think it may be the blower motor itself rattling. Does this make sense to anyone and if so, can anyone tie this into why it changes when the A/C is on?

I have the same issue - comes from by the glove box right? I believe I saw a service bulletin one time in regards to the fan under the glove box that needed replacing or tightening. I've also learned to just ignore it.

Over the last few weeks the noise has become much more pronounced and i'm quite confident that the rattle is being caused by the fan itself. When the rattle occurs now it's for a more prolonged period and is constant with the speed of the fan motor.

Does anyone happen to know if I'm able to tighten the fan on the motor in any way or if I need to replace the whole unit? Thanks in advance.
