Issues with VAGCOM when using Parallels

I am wondering if anyone else has had issues with their VAGCOM setup after the latest update? Specifically using the latest update of Parallels and iOS El Capitan? I am using windows 7 if that matters. Last time I used my set-up was around Halloween and after that I took my car to a dealer for the 55K service. When I tried to scan my car last night I got a communication error and it wouldn't scan. the cable was recognized and is a genuine cable. I was able to go to the engine controller and download codes that way. I was even able to reset them. It is just weird that it won't scan. I even went back to an older version of VAGCOM software. I am thinking this has something to do with Parallels or maybe the dealer did something when they had my car in. All my coding that I did seems to still be there. I am just scratching my head now. Any ideas?

Im running virtual box and when el capitan was in beta it wouldn't work due to usb driver issues. I had to go back to Yosemite. It could still be that since the OS is still new the correct drivers are not out yet. This was back in august when mine wasn't working and I had to downgrade back to Yosemite. Im sure its something to do with your parallel program than anything else. I would do some research with that first. or has it ever worked fully with capitan

Try running Windows straight without using parallels and see what that does. If it still doesn't work, you know it's something going on with Windows or VAGCOM, if it does, parallels/el capitan interaction is causing an issue. And if any of all those associated programs were updated, you're going to have a few things to try to isolate the issue, but that's borrowing trouble at this point. Good luck!

Not exactly an answer to your question vs a workaround but you can buy a cheap tablet now that will run windows 10 for about $60. Just go that route with a USB adapter ($3) and eliminate your problem plus you get a decent tablet.

Do you have any recommendations for a good quality, inexpensive windows 10 tablet? I happen to be in the market but am way out of the Windows world (been using Macs for a while now)

I'm not tablet guru but I did some research and picked up this last year for $64 at the time: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834298232 I went refurb at the time because I wasn't sure how well it work and it looked no different than a new unit (packaged the same, not a scratch on it etc) so I was happy.

MS offers a free upgrade from win 8.1 to windows 10 so I did the upgrade and the tablet works nice now with VCDS.

Just get a decent atom-powered tablet and make sure it doesn't say "windows RT" (different ver of windows for ARM CPUs). Slickdeals, cowboom etc all run promos week to week where you'll find one at a good price. http://slickdeals.net/newsearch.php?...r%5B%5D=525818

The only small downside currently is text on the screen is a little hard to read when using a suction cup windshield mount for when driving as it's about as far back the MMI screen. But for using it in hand it works great. The tablet is reasonably fast for things like web browsing, VCDS etc and the built-in keyboard works really well. Battery life on standby is nowhere near an ipad but in operation it works for several hours which is fine. For $64 it was well worth it.

Agreed. Its not an ipad but for what it costs, I'm not complaining.

I just need to buy another or customize my existing mount so I can get it closer to my face so I can reach it and read the screen better when seated in my car.

You are probably right. I don't think I have tried to use my computer on my car after El Capitan. I don't remember when I updated, but it would have probably been sometime in november.

Pretty good idea. this probably won't work with an android tablet right? Might try that and see.



Thanks for the replies...I am betting it is because El Capitan is on my computer. In any case I will probably have to wait a couple of weeks to try anything.

You shouldn't need to install Windows again. Just hold down the option key when you fire up your MacBook and you should be given the option to launch directly into Windows, unless you somehow installed parallels without a partition.

The typical HEX+CAN vag-com/vcds that everyone has won't work with Android, it's windows only. Ross-tech offers a "mobile" version for $399 that is in public beta that uses wifi and browser but it doesn't support all features and is supposedly slow on logging adv meas blocks.

I am using Parallels and not bootcamp at this time. I didn't partition out the drive...it's not required when you load Parallels. So I would need to load windows on either the internal hard drive or an external. I have my old hard drive (before El Capitan) that was internal to my Mac at my parent's house. I just need to get that one and try again. In fact I will try downloading my car again in a little bit. I have had some weird electrical things going on, so it could be my car for all I know.

Well, still can't do the autoscan, but I can go to each controller and download the codes and clear them. It looks as though I can still code going to the controller. So, I still have most of the functionality, just not an autoscan all controllers or OBDII scan. I can get the gateway check to happen on most occasions, so at least it tells me the controller that has the fail at least. Hopefully the USB driver stuff with El Capitan gets fixed soon though.
