    Audi A4 B7 or nah?

Ok so i'm kind of wanting an a4 b7. I currently own an 1999 Audi a4 b5 2.8 30v quattro that I love, but I want a newer audi. What are some things to look out for when buying one and what engine us best for modifications. (meaning respond well to modifications and have a descent aftermarket support). Thanks for the help in advance.

There is almost zero aftermarket support for the 3.2L, so if you plan to modify it buy a 2.0T. Aside from normal used car stuff, you want to check the condition of the cam follower under the hpfp to make sure it isn't trashed.

That's kind of what I figured there is no aftermarket support for the b5 v6 either.

How well does the v6 respond to boost and has anyone on the forums ever turbocharged one?

To the best of my knowledge, no one has turbocharged the 3.2L. It is however very similar in design to the 2.7T and the 3.0T, so in theory it should work pretty well. You would have to address the high compression ratio before going crazy on the boost though. The stock compression ratio of the 3.2L is a whopping 12.5:1.

Wow really that's pretty high. I've researched the 2.7t a good amount and I would want to get power close to the power they make.

Here's a solution. Buy an r32. Slightly higher in price maybe. They are rare but pretty easy to find. V6 turbo AWD pretty luxurious. Idk I've seen many a4 b7s popping up for sale on Craigslist. I'd just be thorough in service records, matainance, etc.

Yeah it would be sick to have an r32 but that is out of my price range right now. I've always wanted an a4 b7 and they are finally in my price range.

i love my b7 a4 2.0T quattro. great quality, fun to drive and more than capable of driving through any conditions. i have the APR stage 2+ tune and it hauls. just keep an eye on the usual suspects:
-coil packs. mine lasted 110k miles before i had to replace them. bad packs cause misfires.
-cam follower. just keep an eye on it every second or third oil change. if the wear isn't bad, distance out the interval check.

Go for it! Find a nice unmodified or 'stock' version owned by a mature person, or a woman if she serviced it regularly. This is going to be rare and hard to do - unless you buy it from me! ...they're out there.

Yeah I'll have to think about it in still debating on if I want one right now and if I do what engine.

Hey! If you're buying one I would definitely go for as late a model as possible and get a manual if you can. Otherwise tiptronic if you need an auto. Stay away from the cvt at all costs. The 2.0T engine is definitely the pick as it puts down decent power, fuel economy and can be tuned to be more powerful than the 3.2 with just a chiptune I think.

Cam follower is definitely one to check but another would be to ensure the car idles smoothly in gear (in a manual just check how the car feels in first at around 800rpm in first"). If vibrations are going through the cabin on stock mounts that usually means an issue somewhere which needs to be fixed.

Also check service intervals as especially to ensure that the car is serviced at most every 15000kms and timing belts are done every 60000. If the car is close to a device interval mark that is a definite price point discussion.

Also look for dead pixels in the DIS and radio and just that the interior compartments open and close without issue, (common point of breakage is the armrest latch and rear ashtray)

Best is to try to post a wanted ad in the classifieds for a b7 w/ manual transmission. When I purchased mine I had a difficult time finding one in decent condition with a slushbox. In fact I searched classifieds (craigslist) around 1000+ miles away and could not find what I was looking for. 2008 is the preferable year. Search on here, and post a wanted thread. My vehicle had 100k mi when i purchased it on the original cam follower and the wear was not bad, at all. The later model year you purchase the less problems you will tend to have as they have revised parts already installed out of the factory. Try to stay under 100k miles and it will be a worthwhile purchase.

Thanks for the information. I never really thought about posting on here for you but I'll keep it in mind.
