I have a B7 S4 but im looking for another little project to tinker with. I came across this and am wondering if there is anything else to look for and what a decent price for this would be? Im thinking around 800. Im really just worried about other engine damage. https://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/cto/5348479235.html

Nah, I would stay away from it.

Are you wanting a 2.8 or does it matter? 2.8\1.8t

What kind of project are you looking for? There isn't a whole lot you can do to a 2.8

It doesnt have to be but i do like the 2.8. It makes a pretty decent sound too. Not looking for big power or anything. Besides whats already done to it id probably do exhaust and just keep it running.

Well on that one...you risk it having bent valves. Noit worth the fix IMO unless you can do that stuff.

thats what im worried about. I dont want to do the belt job and find out the valves are smashed. How can you tell its a 12v. I though they went to 30v in 98?

Maybe early 98 could be possible or it was swapped out for what ever reason.

Have you talked to the guy? I would inquire about it.

98% of the time the timing belt goes, you're going to have bent valves.
