Jeez two posts in one day!

Now the serpentine belt tensioner goes bad and is making a racket.

    Very noisy

    $96 part

NAPA wants $357 for part and labor

Seems like a lot of $$$$

Diagram off Audi parts site seems to show just one bolt holding part to block

    Looks like a torq bolt

This should be a quick driveway fix / right?

It is only 1 bolt holding it in place. Check to see if you can get tools into that spot without having to slide the front core back.

Sometimes the bolts on those pulleys are revers thread. Not sure if ours is or not, but something to check before you start wrenching.

The tensioner is a 12mm triple square. I could fit my breaker bar and bit in there but not much room left. You may try removing the 4 screws on the upper shroud and see if that gives you any angle to go under hood latch. Also be aware not only is there the tensioner but also an idler pully on bearings further down held in by I think a t25 or 27 torx that could make the same noise.

My idler pulley started squeaking and it seized a couple weeks later.

If you're not planning to do it yourself, never bring it to a chain shop..

    They overcharge you like hell.
