    Stripes?

I've seen a few R8's and some RS5's that have 2 stripes that run from front to back, offset to the drivers side, one wider than the other. Is there some historical racing significance with these? I'm about to wrap my S5, and thought I might add something similar if it's some sort of racing throwback thing.

The different width stripes is an homage to that of the Third Reich. You can see the layout on some swastikas and various nationalistic flags of that time...

Racing stripes with varying widths existed long before the Third Reich's reign of terror, so I don't know that you can accurately say that they're paying homage to the Third Reich.

Well, it's only vinyl, so it'll come right off if I don't like it. I'm doing the Avery dark gloss grey which looks very similar to Nardo.......might do the stripes in a slightly lighter satin grey.

The off center racing stripe originated with NASCAR, I believe in 60's. Don't recall the team that first did it, but a single stripe was placed on the driver's side to give the team a better visual of drift angle in corners.

More mention of Nazi's than Bill Murray in a thread titled "Stripes?" is just wrong....

as for the car, could look good... I would like to see it with subtle contrast
