What sort of "jack pad" is used with hydraulic lifts?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Found a local shop that rents garage space when I was helping a buddy do suspension work. Anyone jacked up the car on a lift before? What sort of attachment/pad/holder is needed? The hydraulic lift is just a flat plate. My buddys BMW had some specific jack pad for hydraulic lifts.

I found something on ECS for the B5, but nothing for the B8.

I used a lift with the flat rubber pads for years without an issue. I use my jack with the flat pad all the time without an issue and I'm pretty sure you're fine. Here's some options if you're not good with that answer.

This is a really good discussion because i am quite sure the tire shop I go to just jacks them up without any pad with those rolling floor jacks and the place I used to go would jack my cars up by the rear diff!

I just use the pinch weld, where I would with a floor jack.

Like so: $15 on eBay. Or cut a slot in a hockey puck.

That's what it's for no need for pads.

I take about 5 mins and remove the 2 back under trays and jack it up on the actually jack pads from the factory just in front of the rear wheels. In the front I put it on ramps and then jack from the sub-frame, I trust the pinch welds to hold the body panels on, in my opinion they aren't made for repeated use.

I have had mine up on all four pinch welds numerous times. No sign of any bending or issue with them.

Jacking it by the pinch weld with the standard jack has pulled some paint and undercoating, so I just err on the side of caution and take a bit more time.

I'd imagine the pinch welds will get destroyed eventually without a proper jack pad. I always used a hockey puck with a slot in the middle cut out, never thought about what the shops would you use though.

If you pull the back under tray sections off there is a solid 3" x 5" or so jack pad built into the frame.

Funny I just bought some hockey pucks at Play it Again Sports. $2 for one. Used of course but it's a hockey puck. Haha

Yeah i like this pad, will buy an official one. Prefer not to go MacGyver on a hockey puck when my car is 7ft in the air though.

What's the "flat rubber pad"? The shop lifts were a flat metal plate, you think they have rubber pieces I can put on them? I'll call and ask.

This is what I meant and my floor jack is about the same. You'll be fine as long as you stay on the jack points. Or you can get the rubber pucks like the other guys mentioned.
