    Possibly getting a new B5?

I'm thinking about picking up this 1.8T for only $1400. It needs a new MAF and rear pads+rotors but that's easy and cheap stuff. Does it look like a good deal to all you B5 enthusiasts?

I don't know your local market, but here that would be a decent deal at $1000 even. $1400 isn't too much for it, but not a smoking deal either.

    Wow, that sucker is high!

The color is kind of interesting. I would say $1400 with the wheels isn't terrible, that's probably how I'd play it. It's missing the center bumper vent, and all the lower door trim, too. That lower trim has to go "no longer available" pretty soon, lol.

    It does look pretty good.

That driver's seat...l've noticed a lot of non-cloth seats looking like this on North American models. Are they vinyl / faux leather?

Yeah, they suck. Only on 1.8t's though. 2.8s are real leather and dont do it. Americans muct not be refined enough to appreciate leather in their four cylinder cars, I guess.

I guessed they were vinyl. Euro-spec B5's are either cloth or real leather. I had a 1995 base 1.8 SE (non-turbo) which I purchased back in 2008 as an R&D car, and that had real leather too.

Yeah I'll probably patch that seat ASAP and then replace it down the line and I actually love that color he has on there. So 1k without the wheels seems like what I'll be offering. I'll have to sell my current 99' 2.8 simultaneously to get the 1.8T on the road in a timely manor and I've already got two people interested.

Or to aim our HID's down on our own, or open/close our windows with a key fob, or open our glove box doors from anywhere other than the middle, or to push in the clutch before hitting the starter. Just a lack of refinement all around, really.

It's a dark grey and I think he had it done in a custom color... So no addition to the paint code list unfortunately.

So I'm kind of skeptical because of the mileage. Over 200k and it's the 1.8t, not the more reliable 2.8. What should I be expecting to fix? Turbo, timing, other stuff I don't even know exists???

My avant is at 230k. It all depends on what kind of maintenance the car got

The 2.8 is the more reliable?

Comparing the 2.8 to the 1.8T assuming the same disregard for maintenance, the 2.8 will be better off. The 1.8T needs more maintenance to keep it health then the 2.8. In my opinion though its easy to save a ruined 1.8, but impossible to save a ruined 2.8 (or not worth it anyway... to me).

I can agree with that. What's everyone take on a price for an 01 sedan 5 speed sport celebration wheels with 104k on it. Needs clutch and timing belt kit.

    Haha, in all actuality $1500

In my area that would probably list around 2k. Super clean ones are selling for around 5k. Non running around 1k.

You could probably save over 1k if you did that work yourself.

Not sure if I want this 1.8 or a different 2.8 that's also for sale... One of the things I like about the 1.8 is that it has a turbo but legend has it that a 2.8 could run a single turbo running 5-7 psi... :O

It's a 1.8tqm. I have the same car that I blew up over the summer. This one is only different by the sport suspension and celebration wheels. I did not a clutch and timing belt on my old one so I not worried about those jobs. It's never had a timing belt job done tho and it's at 104k.

There is a single turbo kit for the 30v 2.8, I forget who developed it but I want to say 034. They have a thread here all about it.

I thought they made it for the S4 but I supposed it doesn't matter. I know it utilizes the 2.8 exhaust manifolds

Got the 1.8t for $800. Pretty good deal considering its 25k miles less than what I have and I'm selling mine for $1500.

So... Last night I asked the guy with the 1.8t when I could come down to look at it and he told me that he sold it to another guy for $900 lol. So now I'm looking at another 1.8... So what do you guys think the value of this blue one is? I don't wanna offer him more than I have to.
