tell me about the 3.2? Thinking about purchasing one.

I currently have a Q5 and a B6 A4. I took a new job in November that requires a lot of driving and the b6 just is showing and feeling its age. I've been looking at 07-10 A3s, quattro is a must and I really wanted a 2.0t but I'm not finding many for sale at a good price. I am however finding many 3.2 quattros in my price range. My worry is since i'm driving 20K a year will i regret the 3.2? or will it not be so bad because the I don't need to run premium since its not forced induction? Am I better off just holding out for a 2.0t?

    thanks

The 3.2 still calls for premium.

Depends what you want in the end really, the VR is a great motor. No Carbon issues, or cam follower issues like the 2L. Not as good mileage, but great heat. The instant torque is a blast in the snow as well.

There are far fewer 2.0T quattros than 3.2.
Early models(pre face-lift) quattros only came with 3.2
Later 2009-2012 were 2.0T FWD or Quattro.
Audi did a shit job configuring and marketing the A3 Sportback in this country.

Look for an early 3.2 Quattro with low milage and become friends with Das Ponto.

    Good luck

yeah I'm noticing how hard it is to find quattro ones, especially in a 2.0t model. There is a 2007 3.2 quattro for $12K with 69K and a 2009 2.0t quattro for $14k with 96k on it

If you're driving 20k miles a year and you have to pay for your own gas, I'd probably suck up the extra cost of a 2009+ 2.0TQ. The 2.0T can average over 30mpg if you stay out of boost, and has a crapton more aftermarket support. My 3.2L rarely ever gets above 25.

Of course, I love my VR6. Despite only having 210awhp, it feels a lot faster.

I've been purposely babying my car this last week and was shocked to see over 26 mpg on the DIS when i got home tonight. Normally, I'm lucky to see 20 mpg since there are some fun sections of twisty country road along the way.
still no turbo - other mods here

I have a 2006 A3 3.2 with 40k miles on it that I will probably be selling soon if you want to know more about it. I would give the exterior 8.5 and the interior 10.

Or just get a VR6 and turbo it, drive everywhere with a smile and you will not even think about MPG. The fun factor is well worth the money for extra gas. If your worried about money for gas work a little more overtime.
