Apparently wrecking is the thing to do.

Well I just decided to join and see what this place is all about. I currently have a 2012 S4 that was pristine until about a few days ago and wound up sliding into a parked car. I ended doing about 17k of damage but the insurance company is going to fix it.
before that accident right after I bought my motorcycle

    and after the accident
damage to major parts includes rear panel, both doors, b pillar, front fender, both rims on passenger side, front bumper, and grill.

figure its time to upgrade a few things like rs4 grill, new rims, tint the windows, just to name a few.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Upgrade number one should be a set of true winter tires, not all-seasons.

Glad you're ok OP, hope everything get's repaired/replaced with all OEM components

Side note, this is now the 3rd wrecking of an S4's in a couple month's time due to sliding/loss of traction from A/S tires....is everyone just taking the car to the limit each time while on A/S?

I was just leaving the girlfriends house and was going about 10mph when I tried to slow down(well before) for the stop sign. The road curves slightly to the left with a 3 way stop then turns right to get out of the neighborhood.

That's a good looking bike. I watched the unveil of the 959 and it looks like a bad machine. Personally I love my 1199 but I wish I would have opted for the S.

Glad you are ok OP. I'm sure it'll be back as new.

PSA for the forum: Winter tires are better on all cold surfaces (snow, slush, ice, dry) vs. All Season tires. If you can afford it, please change to Winter tires during the cold months (<40F).

I'm still surprised that people defend A/S tires as good in the winter, saying things like "A/S are like a performance winter tire" or "both A/S and Winters perform the same on the ice...because it's ice"

    Comparison on Ice:
    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=116

    Performance winter tires:
    http://www.tirerack.com/videos/index...227&tab=Winter

Note that even the performance winter tires have a considerable advantage over the best A/S tire. Comparing winters to a UHP A/S like the Pilot A/S 3, the gap widens even more.

Michelin PS A/S 3 are pretty bad in the snow.

If I made an imaginary scale for my last decent set of A/S, Yoko S4s on my 335xi, I'd call them 70% summer / 30% winter performance tire. Great all around tire, surprisingly good in the snow, good in the warm weather but didn't handle as like the PS A/S 3s (well, comparing across cars too).

The A/S 3s I'd call about a 90/10 tire. Seems like a summer tire with compound that stays reasonably soft in freezing temps. More too it than that, but that's what it feels like.

In any kind of snow, my S5 stays home.

Well I wasn't at home and it wasn't supposed to snow. It's been a very mild winter in the Midwest and just got caught in it. Hell the snow melted off in a few hrs. Just bad luck.

Agreed. You have my sympathies for your loss. It's not like you were going to take a taxi home in minor snow when you had an AWD car. Just bad luck.

The only car I ever crashed happened the same way (snow started while away from home, so I chanced it).

    Darn darn...

Every year there are 5-10 posts just like this. Typically running all seasons or summer tires during winter months... We should really have a sticky thread for them.
Switch over to dedicated snows mid-to late Nov... regardless of the present weather... if you live anywhere that gets snow. Because this time of year the temps can drop fast and unexpectedly... you can walk into a restaurant with 45F and by the time you leave it's 30F...

My experience with wheels and tires has been pretty bad on this car so I'd have to lean towards buying another set of rims with dedicated snows vs swapping.

I've had a hell of a time getting tires to sit properly on wheels , wheels issues and tire issues (not round). It costs so much at places around here that actually know how to properly mount tires with a Hunter Road Force Balancer that I'd go broke swapping tires around to get them to roll properly. IOW, once I they are mounted properly, I'm not touching them until they wear out.

Absolutely man. Don't waste time swapping tires on rims... waste of time and money and hard on both rim and tire.
Have a separate dedicated set for winter and dedicated for summer and you can swap them yourself in 30 minutes in your driveway or garage...
