    Question Bulkhead/firewall

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello everyone! I registrated now just to ask one question, that drives me mad.
My english isn't that good, but I'll try to make myself understood.

So the thing is, I am installing an engine heater, and coupé(?) heater (just a regular 220volts) in my 2012 a6 2.0tdi, and I can't find one single hole/grommet in the bulkhead/firewall (or whatever it's called in english )
Has anyone here routed cables through the bulkhead? I would be very happy if you guys could help me find a hole.

    Thanks in advance!

I haven't done such an install but have read about it. Search for "Audi ALP laser jammer install" and you'll likely find the info you need. From memory, you need to drain and remove your windshield washer reservoir, then remove your ECU. There should be a grommet visible at this point that terminates under the dash near your steering wheel. Supposedly a royal pain to access, but no alternatives. Good luck.

Thanks! The problem here is that I need to find a way from the drivers side to the passengers side and route a thick cable and still make it invisible, do you know if thats possible? I removed the glove box and some other plastics around, but its not like any older car I´ve torn apart :( it's stuff everywhere and not a single gap of air anywhere, it seems..

I have a write-up in progress that covers getting into the cabin from the engine compartment. Where the write up currently stops (prior to 'cutting the grille') you need to remove that grey plastic piece. Your way in is beneath that.
I'm sure you can route the cable over from passenger side engine compartment underneath the weather protectant plastic piece that covers the wiper reservoir, and then into the cabin.

Nice car you've got there! yes I thought so too, I removed the big plastic cover you mentioned but I cannot find a hole anywhere on the passenger side.

You need to route the cable in via the drivers side. If you need to get the cable back to the passenger side inside the cabin, there's room to do so. I'm not aware of any other firewall entry points.

Oh, okey! Do you know if I have to remove half of my interior to be able to get the cable from the drivers side to the passenger side?

I haven't done that yet on the S6. Based on B5 S4 and B7 RS4, it was never all that hard. Removing the knee bolster and the glove box did the trick on those. I'd take those off, get a coat hanger / strong wire, tape the cable to it, and see if you can find a path through at that point. In both the S and RS, there was room close to the ground that you could see to the other side even (i.e. pretty clear path). Again - I have no experience on the C7 with this piece, but would imagine it's not too different.

Sorry I totally forgot to post :D I didnt dare to remove the ecu incase my dashboard would light up like a christmas tree with faultcodes etc... so I did it the old fashioned way, just drilled a hole straight trough the wall on the passenger side.
If anyone finds this thread in the future and wants to do just that and are afraid to hit some electrics etc with the drill, just drill an inch (or a few) left of the AC intake, (as seen from under the hood, with the long plastic cover gone.) its like 2mm thick metal, and just hairy fabric inside.
