    2016 allroad - Off-road????

    2016 Audi allroad 2.0T tiptronic
    Tornado gray
    Premium Plus
    Technology Package
    Sport Package

Bought my wife a 2016 allroad for Christmas and took it to AZ the following weekend (new years). Absolutely love the car but it needs work. We are in So Cal so any custom work needs to be local to Los Angeles. I'm taking the car down to Boden Autohaus on Thursday to go over some one off custom work. So we will see what comes out of that.

Edit: Biden has forwarded my requests to allroadoutfitters.

I'm not in the group that wants air susp. or lowered car. I'll do that when I get a Porsche. However, there are many other mods that are to be done separate from suspension that are the common without using the vehicle in the same way. Besides those similar/same mods, I am interested in mods for off road use.

    1. Grill license plate delete
    2. Clear front headlight side markers
    3. Roof rack
    4. Rally bar with lights
    5. Off-road wheels/tires
    7. Exhaust
    8. Skid plates
    9. Lift? Q5 or other / custom?
    10. Transk9 dog carrier or other dog guard
    11. Rocker slider? Custom for sure but not sure if its possible

maybe other mods too but these are a good start

I've found a few build threads here with some great info. Most however want a lowered/aggressive stance/look. I'm looking for more camping/outdoor rally driving mods.

    Any help is appreciated.

My wife and the salesman. Kooky picture I know, but it is required when you get/give a car as a gift.

Took the car up to Hualapai Mountain using the fire escape road. We had taken her Impreza on this road in the past, it some trouble but the allroad just rolled through.

cross cornered on purpose to see the articulation.

Q5 should bolt right up to a B8 and it'd probably give you the right amount of lift. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

What are the differences of B8 and "B8.5" ?? I see some references to this differentiator but nonspecific information.... Is there a list if differences on the 2016?

I hope I didn't choose poorly and should have purchased a 2015, they were WAY cheaper.

Either way, I have a 2016 now so that what we need to modify.

I actually created the exact thread you're looking for a few weeks ago:

B8/B8.5 Buyer's Guide and "Looking to buy" Question Thread

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=681660

Short answer is that B8 is pre-facelift and B8.5 is post; technically all US-market Allroads are B8.5s. Q5s are built on the same underpinnings so the suspension should bolt up to any other B8/B8.5/Avant/Allroad.

The allroad is built off the A4 avant chassis with dude soon and other components from the A5, because the A5 has a wide track and that's what the allroad has.

The Q5 chassis and Allroad are not shared.

Not exactly, but I didn't say exactly. I said same platform, which is true; others have confirmed the suspension is compatible.

I spoke with Austin at allroadoutfitters.com and we are going to do a build plan.

He's currently at CES but I'll meet with in a week or two for the first set of mods....

    1. Wheels and tires
    2. Rally light bar
    3. Roof rack/Spare tire****

Need a way to carry a full size spare when offroading. I'm open to anything here except welding/cutting/drilling to car. Must be bolt on.

Found some great info on wheels specs for the B8 as well as a 3D configurator for the allroad that allows me to see the look of the wheel before choosing. It looks like white will have to be custom ordered for the 17" wheels but this gives you an idea of where I am going with this thing.

I look forward to seeing the finished product. I would look into a height-adjustable pneumatic suspension like the older models used but instead of being able to raise 2.5 inches shoot for maybe 4-5 inches.

This is awesome. A lot of Jetta Sportwagen owners have been installing Tiguan springs as it gives a bit of lift - might take some trial and error, but I would think the Q5 suspension (or certain components at least) should swap over.

Yes, I spoke with Austin at allroadoutfitters about that very thing. I'll do the straight up things first, and and he will source some coilover options in the next few weeks. I'd really love to be able to adjust the height from stock or -.5 stock to +1 but that may not be in the cards considering my rules of bolt on. Im not sure how all the air components, compressor, lines, switches etc. would install and be removable should I not keep the car. But I am willing to do just a straight coilover swap with a +.5 to +1 inch height increase if that's what it takes.

I'm considering the lower height value because Ive already sourced tires size at 225/65-17 BFG AT KO replacing the Pirelli Cinturato P7's at 245/24/18 so that already an increase of .9" in height

So, stock ground clearance is 7.1 inches, stock tire Ø is 26.7t x 9.65w, with new wheels and tires, at Ø28.5t x 8.86w I gain ~.9"

So the coilover could effectively take me from 8.0" ground clearance to 8.5" or 9"depending on what coilover options are available. all that with just a new shock/spring. no Q5 suspension or air ride. 9" ground clearance on a road car is significant IMHO

    stay tuned!!

I should also mention that most if not all of the suppliers and custom places are geared toward lowering and track mods. So its going to be tough, but I'll get it sorted.

I'm actually very optimistic after speaking to allroadoutfitters as we have similar backgrounds, they started in Land Rovers but switched to Audi. My business is Land Rover based and own two modified trucks. So, the point is, I have a very good feeling that he has a sense of what I am trying to accomplish with the car - rally car somewhere between stock and heavily modified. tasteful mods that still aloow it to be driven as a road car daily but then have some added offroad ability over stock.

SEMA 2016? with an allroad?? (not likely on my budget but one can dream!!)

it might be but its also a subaru. i couldnt stand the subaru we had for the past 3 years in terms of comfort and luxury and off the line "go". its just not nice enough. I do wish the allroad had as much power as the 3.6 subie, but ultimately, its my wifes car and she doesnt really need more than the audi has anyway. the audi is WAY more plush than the subaru. and yes, i care about that with my physical condition and other reasons.

nothing against the outback, its a great car - great resale, great safety, etc. just not for me in its totality. i also realize that you may just be comparing heights, but honestly, other vehicle heights wont have any impact on my final decision- driveability and upgrade impact on wanted/perceived gain in performance will my number deciding factors..

EDIT: Subaru lists Subaru Outback 3.6R at 8.7"

Nice rigs OP! Allroad Outfitters is right by my office and I see their rides all the time. Some aren't my cup of tea (cough cough that S4), but they definitely can do anything you want and do some great work.

yea was just thinking out loud only about ride height for comparison sake....The outback and Allroad are two totally different animals. And actually the 3.6R outback is significantly slower than the 2.0T Allroad. The V6 outback hits 60 in 7.3 seconds... the Allroad does it in stock form in 6.3. The Subaru also comes with perhaps my least favorite automotive invention of our time.... a CVT. A far cry from the ZF8

I figured that was it. Yeah, no argument, just sharing info. You are way more knowledgeable about the cars than I am. I sort get blinders on once I find a car I like. I really know very little about the outback but after having the Impreza and now the Allroad, I wouldn't buy an outback.

I personally drive a old man sedan, 2008 MB E350, but I love the car. Looking to upgrade to an E63.

I did see a badass 2014 S4 today though. But the dealer wasted my time on the E63 so I showed no interest in speaking about the S4. But that's another story.

I personally drive a old man sedan, 2008 MB E350, but I love the car. Looking to upgrade to an E63.

I did see a badass 2012 S4 today though. But the dealer wasted my time on the E63 so I showed no interest in speaking about the S4. But that's another story.
Nothing wrong with the E class. I had a 2002 E320 wagon with the rear facing seats haha. My college buddies and i had a ball with that car.

I agree. Primary reason I bought my allroad and kept it mostly stock is because the roads in this country f'n suck. I haven't done offroading per se beyond unexpected fire roads and Tahoe snow, but daily driving is an adventure out here in SF. Constant potholes and road construction. Not saying I need an allroad or SUV or any other "rugged" type car for this, but it's a little easier to stomach than a slammed, low profile car. Those are for new development suburbs that I assume you guys all live in. City infrastructure is bad with all the traffic. However, I remember driving out in Montana in the late 90's with my buddy in his Mits Eclipse and even though there was no daytime speed limit at the time, we kept having to slow down from triple digits because the roads were so bad. It was a natural speed limiter. I love seeing the pics like this on bad roads or in deep snow. I like the reminders of what the AR can do when needed. Sometimes I forget.

Excited to see this happening. Are you primarily sticking to light trails?

I would call them light yes, but mostly because the inability of the Allroad to truly be an off-road vehicle.

I do think however with these mods, it might make it fairly aggressive and able to handle some moderate trails.

We'll see bug also, this us my wife's daily driver so I don't want bash it up like my truck where I don't care since its a dedicated trail rig.

Allroad outfitters never called me back and I haven't gotten anything done.

I did take a shortcut last week that was washed out and did all kinds of damage, so the lift, tires, protection etc. Would have helped.

I just found this thread and it seemed to have started well, but no updates for 2017?
I am looking to do a similar build (off-road style) and curious what you ended up doing for wheels and tires? I'm debating between going 19" wheels or actually going the off road route with 17".
