Hey guys I have a spare engine for my 03 a4 Avant 1.8T. looking to build a Big turbo setup without going too crazy. My goals are about 400whp.The list of what I've gathered so far.Open to opinions and suggestions.

Stock block with new crank bearings and bolts.

    New oil pump

IE Rods with new arp bolts and calico coated rod bearings.

Stock Pistons with new rings and coatings from swaintech.

    Obviously all new headboard
New head gasket.Worth getting a thicker gasket to drop compression???

AEB head with intake manifold.Or possibly don't deferent intake manifold.

    Equal length turbo manifold.

Still deciding on turbo not sure I was maybe a gt3067r but not sure might have too much lag.

Injectors hmm 630cc maybe from a carrera gt rs.Not sure

    Southbend clutch.

    044 bosch pump.

Air to air ic or air to water ic.

And of course exhaust to match.Looking for options.

Not sure if the goal can be achieved with this setup but then again that's why I'm posting here.Comments opinions suggestions welcome.

044 can only be ran inline or from a different sump. Won't fit in the stock location. It's too tall. 040 will fit. Or you can try a different brand, like Aeromotive.

Don't use a compression lowering gasket. Your stock pistons are 9.3:1. If you want lower cr, get proper pistons. AMB stock wristpins are 19mm. AMU pistons out of the TT225 are 9:1. But they also use 20mm wrispins. And most aftermarket forged 81mm pistons have a 20mm wristpin.

What you have listed will work. But I would look into EFR turbochargers if I were you (not cheap). Or if you have e85 readily available, 400whp can be had easier. And regardless of what route, you will never get 400whp without proper fueling and tune. I personally run Bosch EV 14 630cc injectors, but there are better out there (ev14 is still a great injector).

Also, stay away from South Bend. They have a bad rep for damaging transmissions (notably bending or breaking the fork).

I agree the right tune will make all the difference.I think I have some aeb pistons laying around I might just use them.

Ive used their clutch kits in alot of my cars and never had an issue. So far they've been the only company that stands behind their product and has done right by me when I needed parts.Overnighted!!!

AEB has 9.5:1 cr pistons and use a 20mm wristpin.

I also gave fair warning about that clutch. Leg presses everytime you press the clutch pedal, while that bends yout clutch fork slowly but gradually. Happen way too many times on this vehicle. Other than that, solid clutch for sure!

And stay with the small port IM for velocity. Just enlarge the plenum by whatever method you choose. Apikol makes the cheapest one. Integrated Engineering has the coolest one on the block right now, though. I personally run an extrude honed stock IM that tested 17-18% cfm increase on all runners at 29.5psi test pressure.
