Ecs or 034 ICM delete kits.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my ignition is acting up and throwing misfire codes (random) and don't want to mess with wiring myself. Just trying to get opinions on these kits. ECS kit has a ground wire where 034 doesn't but 034 has bolt down coils. From posts I've read there is a ground wire. These are on sale now so figured it's time to delete the ICM.

    Thx.

both kits are just fine. I have a 34 kit on my car and my buddy has the ECS kit. The ECS kit is one large plate per head which I actually prefer. The 2.0T coils do not bolt down they press into the brackets. I don't recall a ground wire on the 034 kit but I installed mine over 3 years ago and i'm getting old so who knows. I have not even thought about ignition problems for a long time.

I'm running the ECS kit, no problem. Install was a 1 out of 10 beers.
Way easier to change plugs or coils with the kit installed

These kits are basically the same I would assume.

It does look like 034 is using RS6 coils, where as ECS uses 2.0T coils which are found in a ton of audi and VW engines
ECS also uses one mounting bracket for each side where 034 uses 6, one for each coil.

Guess it comes down to preference unless anyone else has some insight

Ya I'm more worried about the ground wire in the harness. Will it be better long term to have that ground wire in the ECS harness? Also are the 2.0T coils actually cheaper than the RS6 coils? Though I like how short the 034 harness are. Just don't wanna buy something now and find out next week there's a V2.

I installed the ECS kit about a year ago. My god what an easy install. No issues since the install. I have no experience with the 034 kit but you can't go wrong with the ECS kit.

I could be wrong. But im pretty sure because the coils in the 034 kit are bolted to the valve cover they are grounded throught the cover.
Unlike the 2.0T coils in the ECS kit which are not, hence the need for the ground wire.

2.0T coils are like 20-30usd each

034 has the option of an RS6 coil conversion or a 2.0t coil conversion. I just installed their 2.0t version. Super easy install and no issues so far. It seems like people have been running both 034 and ECS kits without any problems, so it doesn't seem like the extra ground wires on the ECS kit will make that big of a difference. Just comes down to what you prefer.

And yes, 2.0t coils are much cheaper than RS6 coils.

Their kit using the 2.0t coils is the same though, no ground.

Weird. Maybe it's just a cable shielding ground?

I have a miss-matched setup. The conversion harness is from 034, and one side of the connector ends looks like its 3dprinted (the one with the 034 logo), and several of the locking "ears" are broken already which isnt surprising given the heat they are subjected to (assuming they are in fact 3d printed). Other than that, its pretty hard to screw up a wire harness thats so simple. If I were to buy a kit today, the ECS one looks really clean and OEM to me personally, but both are fine kits.

Price wise they are bout the same.. i would buy the 2.0t 034 kit (priced some coils and found some for $23.95). Now that u mentioned 3d printing on the 034 kit makes me worry.

Shipping will be cheaper or free from ECS. I ordered close to 750$ from 034 and still had to pay shipping

Ecs or 034 I miss delete kits.

I'd go with the ECS kit. I prefer the single mounting plate. Also, I'm not sure if the lack of grounds in the 034 kit present an issue, but I have seen it mentioned a few times which is enough to push me towards the ECS kit.

Not sure which ones come with the ECS kit. I'd guess latest revision. But, you can find the R8 (E revision) coil packs as cheap as $18-$22 depending on source.

Here they are for $18.99/ea from a VW dealer: http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Volksw.../dp/B008QXZ5UI

I prefer the 034 kit because of the rs6 coil and its ability to bolt on like the s4 coils. Plus the rs6 coils are more reliable. Plus no ground wire.

My only complaint was the coils mounted closest to the front of the car. For the other 4 coils, you can mount the coil so the connector is downward to take up all the slack in the wire adapter. You cannot do this with the 2 coils closest to front of car as the valve cover has a raised area for the turbo inlet pipe to bolt to. So you have to shove all of the wiring underneath the fuel rail which is really close to the fuel hoses and turbo inlets. ECS kit would not have this issue since they are mounted at a 45 degree angle relative to stock.

Another reason I went 034 is I've read the 2.0 fsi coils plus plates allow for water to drop down into the spark plugs.

VavJetta how long have u had the 034 kit? Any issue with it not having a ground wire?

Papa_dios, are those OEM coils shipped with the ECS kit? Site doesn't mention if they are or not.

I have early 034 kit and do not like it. Wiring is hard and brittle, I had to solder several pins, as wiring cracks where it is crimped inside connectors. Too lazy to post pictures. Also best coils for higher boost are red R8 coils, they cost just few dollars more than 2.0t coils. I think best way to do conversion is to buy VAG pigtails, cut original connectors, solder pigtails, and use cheap plastic Tuareg coil adapters. More work, but you save some money and result would be waaay better.

Is this the ground you are worried about? I think they ground it, just somewhere else.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Actually only been running them a few weeks. No issues thus far but obviously too early to note longevity. I don't see why there would be any issue with ground as it uses the same circuit as stock.

Yes, those are the updated 2.0 coils that are included with the kit.

My car recently started giving me trouble starting up. It would fire up and then the rpm's suddenly drop. Rev it up a few times and then it runs fine. Going to start by installing a conversion kit. I'm going to go with ECS kit. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ecs or 034 I miss delete kits.

Whoops I guess I should note that I am not using the 034 fsi conversion. I am using the rs6 conversion. I'm most certain the ground is through the mounting bolts onto the valve cover.

Which is what I was thinking

    Hoestly go with ECS,
Just the fact that I have to pay for shipping when ordering 300+$ from O34 kinda pisses me off

Got my 034 kit from europaparts, after getting a code for Cyl 4 Misfire and Random/Multiple Misfire.
I was initially gonna go with ECS but Europa usually has cheaper/faster shipping. New coils got rid of the misfire and everything's worked out fine so far.. The info on that link above makes me wonder though..

Any chance you guys would sell just the wiring portion of the kit? Minus ICM deletes.
