    Looking at used S5

Hello everyone. I'm in the market for my next vehicle due to my rx-8 showing it's age. I have been looking at a few, primarily at the 2012 model C350's and 328i's. My primary reason was price of course, as I've found both for about $23k, but also because they would still be in warranty for a few months, and I would have the option of extending that warranty. However, I just came across this very lovely car:

    http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invento...ting=131345988

It is a 2008 s5 with 87k miles on it. Now, I much prefer coupes, and the benz/bmw's I've found have been sedans (the bmw coupe's use the previous interior). I was hoping to get some insight from you lovely people on whether I should consider the audi. I love the way audi's look and I love the fact that it is a manual. I don't love the miles, but everything I hear these days is that 100k on a car is not high anymore. While this doesn't have a warranty, I was looking into to some outside warranties. I have read very high praise about endurance warranties specifically. If any one has any experience with them, any info would be great.

As for the car, I am aware of the carbon build up issue. I would seem that it needs to be cleaned periodically and last I read price was about $800. I'm hoping that the warranty would cover that issue. My other worry come from when I looke at S4's a few years back. The timing chain. Everything I read about the S4's was "timing chain this and timing chain that", so I wrote off the s4 real quick. Has the chain tensioner problem been as big a deal with the S5's. Looking at truedelta didn't show excessive problems with this model, but they only went back to 2009. Any help/advice you guys can give would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Here is the carfax for the vehicle.

I bought my 2010 with 2k more miles than the one you list, so far it's been mostly trouble free with primarily wear and tear items needing to be replaced. I think the S5 is the best looking and most exclusive of the choices you list, but obviously you're on an Audi forum. These cars don't have major issues, but when things do pop up they can be expensive (expensive being a relative term). I had all the same worries you did when I bought mine, and it worked out for me. If you really like the car go for it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just concerned about the cost of maintenance. I've been researching more, and I've found EasyCare to be highly recommended. I do really like the look of the audi.

[bias]Of course, the look of the S5 is the best of the three.[/bias]

As for maintenance on an out-of-(factory)-warranty Audi, do you intend to go to the dealer, an independent local Audi guru, or wrench yourself?

A pre-purchase inspection by a local Audi guru on your dime would be money well spent.
Do search for S5 repairs (motor mounts, suspension, brakes, clutch, A/C) as part of your aftermarket warranty calculation.
