Bad Brake Booster, Engine mounts and Rear Main Seal Leak

My 2006 A 4 has a bad brake booster so the dealer says. The brake pedal would intermittently get hard.. difficult to press but only as im waiting at a light or when the car was parked. But as it got going the pedal would soften up and would be easy to to press down.. The dealer said it was a bad booster.. He also said that I have a rear main seal leak..... and i also need the motor mounts replaced.. He quoted me 2200 dollars.. I said NO Way.. I knocked him down to 1500.. He said he was going to call around for aftermarket parts and get back to me. How much would be a reasonable price to get those items replaced and is it worth it.. the car has 211K miles on it otherwise in good shape..

    I drive mostly highway miles.

My rear main oilseal leak was caused by a duff pcv, so I would make sure you change that one. Is the brake Booster the same as the vacuum pump?

Rear main oil seal was quite a job as it is transmission off job. If you are doing that, may make sense to plan ahead and get clutch etc changed too.

If you have oil dripping off the back of your engine and leaving a puddle on the floor, maybe you think about the rear main seal. But if you don't even get a puddle back there, some dealer is trying to make a buck.

Do you have hard break pedal at stops only while the car is cold or it happens all the time?

so the job is not done yet. The dealer called me and said in addition to the brake booster there is a vacuum pumpt that needs to be replaced for an additional 295 dollars. Is that bullshit or not?

Most likely the vacuum pump was the problem all along
