    Cabrio specific exhaust question - 2005 b6 s4 cab

Ok, I have (to the best of my abilities) scowered the web looking for an answer to this question. Is there a company that makes a cat back exhaust system 2.5" only for convertibles. Ive read there is an issue with the under car extra support bars getting in the way of the exhaust, but when I look at my current exhaust there is about an inch of space between the exhaust and the support bars.

    So, my questions are:
    1. Has anyone successfully put a 2.5 exhaust on the convertible with having to modify the pipes? If so, what brand did you go with?

    2. If modification to the pipes is inevitable, where are the modification points? Back of car or near the down pipes?

Appreciate any help and hope this isn't a repeat thread.

Not 100% sure offhand, but I suspect that the modification point would be at the back as the support bars extend outwards from the middle of the car towards the two rear corners.

I wouldn't be difficult to modify though, all you need is a couple of bends to splice in. Any exhaust shop should be able to do so with little difficulty.

The Corsa Rsc fits in my b7 cab without modification. The Milltek also fits but it is a lot pricier.

I installed a Magnaflow 2.5" exhaust that was for a sedan on a cabrio. Everything fits until it is time to rotate the pipes for the mufflers to align the tips to the rear bumper. We used zinc plated washers and longer bolts to push the rear lower support bars down farther to gain enough clearance. Let me see if I can find pictures from when I did this.

Jimmy, pics would be great to see. I would really like to be able to open up the breathing on the car.

Any thoughts on what the wheel hp and tq gains are?

I found some of the pictures of the spacers. For that job I didn't take very many pictures so this is it as far as the spacing goes.

From a job before I had a shit ton of 1/2" diameter opening metal washers so I used those to push the rear bars down. In the above pictures I had four spacers pushing the bars down but the exhaust tips were really far off. To get the exhaust tips aligned properly for the owner it took 12 washers in the position that is pictured and four washers at the rear most bolts. Of course the factory bolts are not long enough when the bars are pushed that far down so I had to go to Home Depot and get longer bolts. Don't remember the specific size bolts or thread pitch but it is a very common size so it shouldn't be an issue.

The biggest gains horsepower and torque wise come when you combine a 2.5" catback exhaust, with 2.5" downpipes or headers, and the JHM ECU tune.

This is great, thanks! I'm assuming adding the washers doesn't contradict the purpose of the tie bars...meaning the structure and ridigity is still the same?
