purems (stern) trans mount size difference

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Whats up with the stern mount being about a half inch taller than the stock mount. I remember reading something that people had problems from this or it turns out that purems sent the wrong one mount.

    Car is 5spd 1.8t.

    Ill post a picture shortly...

Im in the middle of the install so some insight would be appreciated. TIA.

on a side note, make sure you jb weld the top nut for the center bolt. you'll thank me.

shifting got smoother, I just don't know what to think about the bigger sized mount. I did some research on the side and it sounds like they fabricated the mount that way and the way it sits makes the transmission sit the same height as stock.

someone with this transmission mount please reply and give some insight.

It's been nearly 10 years since I replaced my V1 mount for the V2 Stern mount but I don't remember there being such a height difference. In fact the second (latest) version is designed to retain the factory height, where the first version did not.

I'll give purems a call tomorrow, maybe they did give me the wrong part.

Representatives at PureMS gave me this:
"Double check the measurements between the areas we've marked in the
photograph. Basically the measurement of the top of the mount, to where the
stud screw into the machined piece. This measurement should be
    approximately the same."

it fits fine...you need to look at how it mounts.

it mounts from the underside of the bottom plate. also this is version 2. version 1 had less rubber which caused the entire car to vibrate like mad....ask me how i know. i own both. Version 1 was the same size as OEM.

How's the cabin noise for you with the v2? can you hear gear shifts and more noise when accelerating in the 1k-2.5k rpm area? It basically sounds like what i would expect from a stiffer trans mount...the transmission noises are more transparent through the cabin.

I let the car idle, with some gas input and also with the AC on, before torquing the center bolt down.

for a performance car it feels great. for a luxury car it sucks. supposedly the best combo is running stern or other stuff engine mounts and running an OEM 2.8L B5 trans mount if I recall correctly.

whenever girls would ride in my car they would ask why it was vibrating so much. the V2 improved on the V1 but not enough. I was running the full stern setup, engine, snub, trans. My current car has 034 street engine mounts, unknown snub(probably 034), and I haven't checked the trans mount. Current combo is nice and OEM+ like.

Really? I have the 034 engine, trans and snub mounts and my car vibrates like crazy, especially during idle.

I have the Febi s4 motor mounts and those added no vibration and took a lot of slop out. driving with the stern trans mount installed for the past 2-3 days, there's basically no slop. it's smooth unless you screw up the clutch work. but the noise added, I keep telling people it sounds like I'm riding in a race car. like Barry said, for a race car it's awesome but it took out the Audi luxury feel.

I too heard having a stock trans mount installed was the best way to go.
