So after buying my '11 last week I immeadiatly started buying stuff...I tinted it, tune2air Bluetooth, rs4 grill, led rear plate lights and wanted an intake. After reading our cars are factory map sensor cars, I knew I could build my own relatively easy, so I did. I went to my local auto parts store and bought everything I needed for $75😳
They had a 3" aluminum 45* to straight pipe that was identical to the stock tube. Grabbed a black 3" air filter and a black breather filter. Went home, tore off the stock contraption and test fitted the new pieces. Everything lined up perfectly so I locked it down and tidied up. Capped the vacuum line that goes to the intake and tucked it away, secured the breather tube/filter to the existing air box tab and tightened up the intake.
Fired up the car and took it for a spin! Normal crushing sounds stock with no audible difference, but is more responsive to throttle input. 1/3 throttle sounds audibly different (reminds me of electric rc car motors) and has more pep than stock. Wot has a nice audible whine and seems to accelerate faster than stock.
Overall this was well worth a little footwork and some creativity.
