    Having trouble getting ashtray out

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got the shifter cover pulled back and those two 8mm bolts off but that dang ashtray just doesn't want to come out. I don't want to force it either. I searched and it sounds like it might be best to remove the climate control unit but I'm having one helluva time finding a DIY anywhere. Has anybody who's removed their ashtray got a few good tips or maybe even a good how-to with pics?

You need to take out the HVAC controls, and it's really not a big deal at all. Take a look here (under "Power Switch" section) where I had to do it for my then Laser Interceptor install.

Yeah... this is a bitch... Hard to get out and in but I managed to do it without removing the HVAC controls. However, it's probably easier if you just remove them

Thanks for the link. Always appreciative of those who take the time and energy to write them up. Which makes it EXTREMELY frustrating when I come across a critical step with instructions that are a little confusing...

"...Disconnect the HVAC head by pressing down on the tab you'll see on the 4 left ones, and in on the sides of the furthest right one..."

If you have the factory rsne that will need to be removed first so you can properly remove the hvac then you can finally remove the ashtray!

I'm sorry but WTF?!?!? I've been working on this thing for a while and if this doesn't make sense to me it just isn't being explained very well.

I get you're frustrated but, you could forget the 4th grade stuff and try "Thanks for the help, but hey, this sentence doesn't make any sense to me, can you clarify?" next time instead.
I try my best to document clearly, but no doubt, you discovered a crap sentence there :) Seems like 2 edits of mine crossed each other. I'll fix that later.

As outsider said: remove the RNSE, and it'll come out very, very easily. From my write-up, "Next, remove the HVAC head unit. It's retained fairly loosely by 4 metal 'bridge' clips. I barely had to pull at all to get it out." The f'ed up sentence is about the electronic connector holding it in place, which you'll figure out how to disconnect once it's loose.

Sorry man. Poor choice of words. I didn't know you were the one that took the time to put that together. Thank you very much though. I think the problem might be that I have factory RNSE and, as a result, it's not possible to remove the HVAC without taking it out first.

No worries, all good. And yeah, I think you're right. I'm also pretty sure that you just need to slide the NAV forward a bit, and not take it all the way out (95% sure on that).
