Question Escort Max360 - Anyone get a BlendMount?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I considering picking up a BlendMount for my new Escort Max360 and S6. I'm curious if anyone on here has a BlendMount, specifically with the Max360? If so, how do you like it? With the Max360 as big as it is, I'm not sure if I want it mounted right below my rear view mirror as I can see the potential of it significantly blocking my field of view. The flip side to that is that the Max360 has the arrows, you want it as close to your line of sight/peripheral vision as much as possible. I'm leaning towards mounting the Max360 with the suction cup so that the unit sits just below the right side of my mirror. Curious to hear other thoughts and opinions on this.

I have it right below the mirror on the left side. I use the mirror to put some pressure on the radar itself as it still tends to bounce around even with the new magnetic mount. Ill take a pic later tonight, and your right this thing is huge. Coming from a v1 then the max, its like double the size. Always a bit weary if the suction cup fails what the thud will be like. Jesus this thing is enormous.

I used the supplied sticky mount and it's been working well for me. I don't notice any bounce, it doesn't protrude in front of the mirror as it would with the Blendmount, and I can position it just a little bit higher, too, while still seeing the arrows. Combined with the SmartCord, I'm pretty happy.

Very tidy installation. How hard was it to get the cable from the mirror to the steering column?

    Cheers.
Not that hard, but coming from my RS4, this knee bolster took some serious force to pry loose. Check out further details on my site, and let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you. Excellent guide. Sounds like the force needed to pull the panels off is a bit scary, but thanks to your guide, I'll definitely give it a try now.

How do you guys like the max360? Is the directional feature pretty accurate?

I like it. I came from a V1, and am not someone who thinks having a phone visible and handy at all times is a reasonable solution.
The arrows are accurate, but do take longer than they should to transition from front to back or vice versa. Hoping they address that with a firmware update sometime soon, but that's not confirmed by then.
30 day free trial, too... Give it a shot :)

S4Per - do you have the 1.2 firmware update? I've heard that speeds up the responsiveness of the arrows significantly.

Thanks and yup, I'm running the latest (1.2) firmware. The biggest fix in that from prior versions is that it now instantly displays the alert information on the screen (there was a bug prior where this would be delayed by a second or so). The transitioning from front-to-back arrows and vice versa is still pretty long, though, and Escort has not mentioned (so far) that they'll address it. It depends on the situation and I've had it be anywhere from about 2 seconds to 4 or 5. I'm hoping with some bigger reviews calling out this delay also (Car & Driver just recently did) that they put in a fix. From what I've gathered, they're intentionally taking longer to transition in order to combat 'arrow bounce' which is something that some V1 folks have complained of (but I never really ran into).

My BlendMount should be here next week. I'm getting it installed at a local dealer who's done this setup before on the C7 platform. Not sure where you're located, but if you're in the Denver area, I'd be happy to let you check it out when it's done. I'll also try to get some pictures and post it up on this site. I just bought my max360 last week and am impressed with it. The GPS lockout feature is worth it.

How does the Max360 do with the X-Band falses from cars with blind spot sensors? I have the 9500ix and I'm seriously thinking about going to the Max360, but the X Band falsest have to be fixed.

The Escort Max 360 has four false alert mitigating features: Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) / Collision Avoidance System (CAS) filter, TSR filter, Cruise Alert, and GPS-based Location Lockouts.

X band is rarely used anymore -- most people will simply turn that band completely off.

K band is everywhere (around where I live). Seems that my local law enforcement uses Ka, Pop & lasers. You can get a lot of detail on the RDfoums as to what is used in your state and the specifics on the Escort Max 360. The biggest feature I like is the lockout of signals of known areas. There's a K-band traffic monitor near where I live. The detector can remember that band & signal and remove it from alerting you, or you can do it manually. You can turn off individual frequencies you need to in the unit. I have X-band shut down all together.

My blend mount won't get here until the 11th. My install will occur tomorrow. So for now, I'm going with S4Per's setup with the suction cups on the windshield until it's here. Mounting the blendmount will be easy and I an see the differences. I'll post up pictures when I get it all installed.

Does the blend mount even fit our mirrors? Website says they mount to the mirror stem, but the C7 mirror stems are so short. Anyone had luck?

Turn your X-band on if you are ever in Texas. State Troopers here in still use X-band radar.

I just ordered a Blendmount and a Max360. They have a list of mirrors and you select the one you have. I'll snap a pic when it comes in the next day or two.

For the C7, I believe this is the mount we'd need for our car, although I am leaning towards just using the mounting cup that comes with the radar detector.

My installer did a great job. I still don't have the blendmount in yet, but we set it up similar to S4Per's setup (He went to the right side of the car as that's where the spare fuses are). Removing the A-pillar was cake thanks to S4Per's notes! One difference we did though, as opposed to cutting out the plastic, we ended up snaking the wire out of the cylindrical hole the mirror is mounted too. We shaved off just a minute amount of plastic, rounding out the hole a bit more to bring in the wire. It looks better IMHO and you can't tell it's not been modified. Pic's will come up later today.

Nice! Looking forward to the pics, especially the routing of the cable. Might have to redo mine based on that ;)

Final product: Note it will be a really tight fit when I get the blendmount.
    [IMG][/IMG]

Hone out the half-circle area at the bottom.
    [IMG][/IMG]

Hard to see, but we snaked the wire all the way around the junk in the center as it will come out better from the bottom.

I'll get some pictures of this from the drivers view today, and will contrast that with the blendmount.
NOTE: I hid the mute button completely. I use my phone to do the lockouts and stuff. Now that the detector is closer to the mirror, I can tap the mute button 3 times to lock out the signal completely.

I think this is a cleaner installation and if you had to remove everything for a sale, the lower panel doesn't have an obvious hole in it. Again, thank you S4Per for providing great detail, your info helped my installer a ton.

Wow, the window stickycup mount is actually really good. I received the Max360 today but not the Blendmount yet so mounted with the stickycup and pretty happy on how that sticks. I've had the other windows mounts with the suction cups and those always sucked falling off and hard to get back on in the cold. I might have second thoughts on the Blendmount since I mainly was doing due to a horrible window mount before but we'll see. I have tint on the front window so that's also a little concern with keeping the stickycup mount on.

I checked the shipping on the Blendmount but still hasn't been shipped, only label created.. . Been like 4-5 days.

I'm in the same boat. I like the suction cup, it works well and keeps the detector tidy. I think Blendmount is a 'build-to-order' kind of place, especially with Audi's being a bit more rare and the mounting styles all over the place. Mine should arrive on the 11th.

Good stuff. I'll be surprised if you guys like the Blendmount better. Seems the ability to have the RD out of the way as much as possible but still accessible is far greater with the sticky cup, and again - I've had zero issues with it.
Thanks for posting those pics! I foresee me replacing that plastic part on mine in favor of your approach down the road :) With Audi pricing, that piece should just be like $90, right? ;)

Have you (or anyone else for that matter) had the sticky cup fall off the window when the temps change? I have a 9500xi in my Q7, but it uses the classic two lame-suction cups and the mount falls off the window every few weeks. Currently it is not an issue because it is mounted at the bottom of the window so the drop isn't bad.

But I'm very scared of buying a new R.D., mounting it high up with the suction (I prefer how S4Per's R.D. sits compared to the blendmounts in other other C7s), and then having it fall off the window on to the dash or worse if it some how fell and landed on the top of the MMI LCD. I guess maybe the cord would catch it before it hit the dash, but still it is all very scary.

I've had it for about 2 months on my car. Moved it a couple of times, without re-cleaning the mount. Weather in Seattle has ranged from 60's down to 30's within that timeframe. It's never as much as hinted at coming loose.
Unsure how the Midwest cold may make it act differently!

As long as your window is clean and the suction cup is clean I have had zero issues with it falling off like I did on the V1 mounts. I keep mine up high to the left of the mirror. Easier to hit the mute button to silence or lock out a known location.

With this mount, the suction cup is actually VERY sticky without the suction part engaged. It takes effort to pry off the mount when it is 'un-sucked'. I suppose a leash couldn't hurt.

Hit up a junk yard, it'll be 89 bucks there :)

I noticed today that the RD is getting better rear signals. It was up front near the dash, but with it in a higher, more centered location, the MMI doesn't interfere with the signals coming from the back.

Here's a video review. Although he has a lot of good points, he didn't mention that you can move this forward, back, up and down. There is more adjustments than he mentions here.

I was just thinking this. Since it is such close proximity to the mirror I could probably fashion a discrete cord to prevent it from tugging on the wires or dropping on the dash if it does fall off. Thanks for the info everyone... now back to pictures of blendmounts and other configurations :D

I'm sure this has been asked about many times, but I found a better phone mount (Steelie by NiteIze). It mounts perfectly in between the MMI and the instrument cluster.
Here are more shots, including the similarities of the different colors the Max 360 has.

So who is running a 360 coming from a Redline? Wondering if I should take the jump yet to a 360 or let the earlier model get all the bugs tested out first. Love my Redline but curious to see how this pairs up. I run my Redline with TRS and only certain Ka bands in Expert Mode to allow for a quicker response than the out of the box settings. Also, a shame the 360 doesn't come with un-detectability like the Redline, super nice in states like VA who don't allow radar detectors to be used... except the Redline. ;)
