    What motor will work in an AWM 01?

    Hey guys. Blew my motor and trans over the summer and he cars been sitting since. I picked up a trans last week and need a motor now. Only issue, is finding a manual AWM motor for sale around me. What other codes can I use and just transfer the accessories if need be?

    Literally any 06a blocked engine will work. A4, Passat, and of course transverse engines from Jettas, Golfs, and Beetles.

    I don't know all the codes, but AWM, AWW, AWD, AUG come to mind

    Thy must be manual ho right? The autos don't have a place for the pilot bearing?

    Manual and auto crankshafts are not the same.

    Transverse engines do not matter, the cranks will work with either. You can adapt a longitudinal auto engine to work with a manual trans though, but it is easier to just go with a manual trans engine

    So any trans engine will work. Manual or not. And obviously another AWM long manual. Okay. Now the hunt continues. What do they normally go for used?

    A passats oil pan is different because it has no oil level sensor. So switch yours over and its good to go.

    Not true. 06B103601CA pulls up for all AWM engines, not just Audi's.

    The guy selling is saying the thermostat housing is different. A block is a block right? I mean I literally just need a block and head. I always thought an 06a block is the same no matter the year and the same with the AWM head.

    So is it decided that the 04 awm out of the Passat is the exact same as what's in my 01 a4? I need to try and buy a motor this week and this is the most plausible one to buy.
