I can't find any information the speakers in the B&O system.

Where are they located, who makes them, what size are they, what impedence, load, etc.

    Is that information not public?

    B8.5 speaker layout

The B&O speakers are obviously made by Bang & Olufsen. The PR-code for the B&O system is 9VK, so look in the parts list for parts listed for PR-9VK.

Is there any info on size, etc, so that I can replace both rear speakers with nicer models?

Fronts are 8", rears are 6.5", but as I recall they're 8 Ohm so you need to watch the impedance.

Actually, if I remember correctly, the speakers are actually Panasonic drivers. The tuning of the system was performed by B&O.

All the speakers, except the subwoofer, are 4 Ohm; the sub is 8 Ohm.

Is it safe to assume the amp can handle an efficient 4 ohm subwoofer then being the same amp driving all channels?

What are options available to replace out front door 8" speaker?

Is it necessary to put in component speaker?

Or just normal 8" mid range speaker??

The B&O speakers are made by an Italian company called Faital. http://www.faital.com/prodotti.php

2002 Audi A4 Avant Quattro 3.0 6MT - Retired commuter, Dog Car, Costco runner, Snowmobile.
2014 Audi S4 Quattro Sport Diff 6MT - Daily Driver. CR-15, Chipwerke, minor cosmetic mods. Eventually I'll get around to the audio build.

The speakers in the B&O sound systems (Audi A4 and A5 at least) are made by Faital. They are also no different than the speakers used in the base systems, except for the manufacturer. They all carry the same basic part number.

As far as I know, Bang and Olufson does not make any speaker drivers. It took me a while to figure out just what B&O did bring to the systems besides the name brand on the speaker grilles. What they provide is acoustic mapping of the car interiors and software for the amplifiers.

Not a ton of technical info but see http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/car-a...of,-,fame,-,a4 (haha, they refer to the B8 as the "hall of fame" as they've put up the B9 page now)

I have managed to score a set of B&O speakers and amp for cheap. Although aftermarket is definitely the way to go for audiophiles, I think the B&O system is still a considerable upgrade over stock. Anybody who says the B&O system doesn't sound much better than stock is in denial or deaf!

Does anybody have any info as far as differences between the stock and B&O wiring? Will the B&O speakers and amp drop and plug right in?

    Thanks in advance!

Did you find out if this was a plug and play setup.

It can't just drop in, there's 4 new speakers you have to wire up in the B&O over the standard. Take the front left corner. In the standard system, the dash corner tweeter and the door mid/bass are in parallel on a single amp channel. In the B&O system, the dash corner midrange and the door sail card tweeter (so you'll need a new sail card cover that has the tweeter hole as well, etc) are in parallel on a single amp channel, while the door midbass driver is on a dedicated amp channel. So it's not major work, but I wouldn't call it "plug and play" by any means.
