    S4 Bolt ons needing tune?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have a manual 2016 S4 and I'm thinking about adding an intake and catback exhaust. If i install them would i need a tune? A buddy of mine put bolt ons on his 370z and needed a tune afterwards because it wasn't running right. Do the S4s run into this issue as well?

You will be spending money on sound and no added performance.
That is sound from the exhaust, what ever it sounds like and maybe some supercharger whine.

The gains come from increasing the air flow through a boosted motor, more boost more horsepower.
Understand there is the Black Night, Audi TD1, trumps all warranty on your boosted motor.

Go stage 2 before you go bolt ons

Intake and stage 2 and forget the exhaust, unless you really want the sound. For performance, that's all you really need for the most noticeable gains. And Stage 2 should cost you less or the same than exhaust, and give you like 60hp more than the exhaust.

The problem with that is voiding warranty. The only thing my dealer is fine with is the intake and catback

I remember when I was worried about that once... I get the hesitation but I have gone back to my dealer flashed back to stock with the new pulley and belt...never questioned or TD1. Good luck and have fun with whatever you do... But in retrospect, Stage2 would have been the first thing for me.

Many threads on this, but again: tune (or the TD1 flag, that comes from the computer detecting a tune) will not void your whole warranty. It will potentially (maybe even "probably") make them decline warranty claims that they believe are related - e.g. powertrain issues, on a case by case basis. It doesn't void your warranty for things like power locks or the radio not working.

Officially an intake, exhaust or short-shifter can have the same effect. Someone had posted the official internal Audi document here a while ago. The computer can't detect these, but an evil/overzealous dealer tech can manually enter the flag. So your dealer might say they are ok with it, but in the rare case that you make a warranty claim and the regional rep (or whatever) looks at it when someone forgot to clean up all evidence of a mod, it "could" be an issue for you and the dealer.

In real life, once you're sure your car isn't a lemon, just go for it and enjoy your car :)

^^ this. At the very least you need to drive or ride in a Stage II to see. Just be prepared to go that route.

intake and exhaust on a 370z shouldn't cause any problems the ECU can compensate just fine.. my guess is whoever did the install on the exhaust messed up an 02 sensor

Why? I did .. Intake is the best performance adder which means Audi made the exhaust system very efficient .. You're picking up an extra 10-15 hp with the intake alone.. The single best compliment to the stage 2 system is a cooling system as once heat soak sets in then performance is affected. So if a person doesn't care for the slight bump in hp then going stage 2 first is the best bang for the buck .. Not really that dumb or maybe you don't hear a lot of dumb things often

I think stopping and suspension before that much more power.

Not saying it's wrong to do it that way, but for some people, it really is about the sound. You don't need 450 hp in order to install exhaust and intake

I've always intended to get tuning, but did intake and exhaust right away to keep me happy for a while. It was just too quiet. Since my recent surprise $5k clutch debacle, I will be waiting much longer than intended till I have software. Luckily, the added acceleration and performance from this lwfw have made the car feel new again.
