    Sharing some knowledge about shifting

So to start off this is not my first manual car, but I think most find these cars are different from dodges, and jeeps and other manual cars.

The two problems that I had with this car are the infamous throttle lag when you first get on the pedal, and that the revs seem to hang when you shift, most notably from 1st to 2nd.

Although I don't really have a solution for the throttle lag, I found a way (through the search button imagine that!) To deal with the rev hang. How I normally drove was to let off the gas and press the clutch in pretty much at the same time. I found some forums talking about how this is what causes the rev hang and that extra second for the rpms to get to where you need them. The solution?

Well what I found from my searching is that if you left off the gas completly and then push in the clutch it stops this. It's nothing drastic, as long as you are completly off the gas before you push in the clutch it supposedly stops the rev hang. So I thought yeah right but I'll try it.

It works! And I can't seem to shift fast enough now! There is no jerkiness like I thought there would be and now all I need to do is shift faster.

Just thought that I would share this with anyone that has the same issue that I had and is looking for a solution. Hopefully this helps at least one person on here.

    But racecar?!?!

Just kidding haha...I do the same during normal city driving. When I'm driving racecar though, that is not an option...Gas always remains depressed and I just have to keep shifting to keep up

Yeah I'm not sure how to shift smooth racecar mode. Whenever I do it jerks rough, my friend said he thinks that since I'm awd the tires have enough grip to not spin and my transmission is forced to pick up the slack causing it to do bad stuff and jerk

A bad clutch switch can also cause the revs to hang when shifting. It's an easy part to replace and doesn't cost much.

I found this as well, however they dont really hang, and my cruise control would shut off as soon as I would press the clutch, rpms wouldn't jump up or hang at all, they would start to drop immediately. What I have found is that even when I let off the gas I kinda get this throttle lag. I tested this by doing it in gear, I let off the gas and second later the car would bog (don't know of a better way to describe it) and start to slow down. I think that by, at least in my case, letting off the throttle earlier is kind of changing the sequence that things are happening. So instead of the sequence being, clutch/gas, ecu knows that no throttle is being given and rpms drop, and shift yadda yadda. It is more like off throttle, clutch/ecu reads as no throttle and lets rpms drop, shift yadda yadda.

A lwfw will help as well. I never had one on my b7, but recently got one on my b8, and it's amazing the difference I felt. Some of that hang you notice is caused by momentum on the extremely heavy dmfw.

This, one reason I hate the dmfw. As soon as it is time to do major maintenance that will be on the list to do.
What ever makes sense go with the opposite and you got it
