    Tuning Fanatics S-Line shift knob

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone,

I bought an S-Line shift knob from Tuning Fanatics on Ebay it is listed as an OEM knob and does<t have a boot already attached. i tried installing this with my oem boot with no luck. they said it installs differently than OEM and that they did indeed send me the right shift knob.

Has anyone installed one of these and if so how did u get the boot on and hold? The opening in the shift boot is not large enough to fit over the last ridge before going into the stainless piece. and the original clip that holds the boot doesn't fit on either?

As I recall, mine came with a new pin... or I had to salvage the old pin. But, either way you pretty much just shove the leather boot up, I even remember cutting it a bit to make it fit better. Even the there was a little lip of leather at the top where it goes under the shifter.

I think you have to do this all with the boot inside out and pulled over the shifter to really get it up there, then you fasten it to the metal attached to the car with the pin. then once its attached to the car, get it all situated and back together.

Which pin are you referring to? I have no pin that came with it or an old one even. Its a plastic clip that clips the boot to the shift knob then its just the metal collar to secure it to the shifter once its in the car..

This is how it came in the mail:

Check part number, thats an S3 shift knob. You'll have to cut part of the black part so it doesnt come in contact with the shift bezel when engaging reverse.

I gave them bad feedback for this, advertised as Seat Exeo/A4 but its an S3 knob.

You could pass by here, I'll show you in person.

so that black piece goes over the shift boot or underneath or you don't use it at all? I might swing by to see you in the new year if I can't figure this out myself lol

Did you have to cut the boot a little to get it to go over that last ridge? and I'm guessing if you used glue you didn't use the huge black clip that it comes with?

**Test it on your car before cuting away, maybe my 05.5 had a difference**

Remove the black part, place the boot centered with the knob like you want it and then clip the black part in place (under the boot).

This is what I cut to clear the shifter bezel once on reverse :

Use a Vicegrip to close that one time use clip with a German name I never remember. Or get a 5/8 clamp.

Here is a picture of it coming in contact with the shift trim while on reverse before I cut into the black plastic part :

Alright cool I'm looking into one from redline goods at the moment. Just to be sure you cut out the entire piece highlighted in red?

I really gave it the shape like I posted above in white. Avoid cutting into the inside part of the black piece. Make sure it comes in contact with the shift trim first though, no need to clip the knob for the testing part.

I dealt with redlinegoods in the past, I sent back the items since nothing would fit.

If I may, stay away from them. I can refer you to the guy who made my custom items if wanted.

Had same issue from the same ebay seller...knob looks amazing but did not come close to OEM fitment on my 07 A4.

Gave up and sold it for cheap (which sucks it looks so good but too bad).

I have the same one and it installed fine for me, I remember having a small issue with the black piece and I used the old piece from my old shift knob I believe. I think if you compare them, one is meant for 3 stitch and one is meant for 4, which makes it difficult if not impossible to fit. Your OEM knob looks different than mine did too though, mine was a ball without the air leather.

It seems like you are having a different issue and I am having trouble picturing it for some reason, but something to consider.
